As autumn begins in September, Jangsu, Jeollabuk-do, hosts a festival celebrating its signature products: Hanwoo beef and apples. At this festival, visitors can enjoy not only the taste of Hanwoo and apples but also various activities, performances, and exhibitions.
During the day, many families visited the festival, and at night, the lights transformed the space into a different atmosphere. Here’s a glimpse of my experience at the Jangsu Hanwoo and Apple Festival.
Upon entering the festival, the first area I explored was the Red Food Zone. During the day, families with young children were sitting at picnic tables enjoying their meals. It was a great place for families to take a break and enjoy food while exploring the festival.
The Red Food Zone offered a variety of foods, with large banners displaying menus and prices in front of each booth, making it easy for visitors to choose what to eat. I noticed many people selecting their meals based on these banners.
In addition to food, the Red Food Zone also featured special performances. On September 11, Sim Se-hee performed with the gayageum, followed by an acoustic duo on September 12 and Yang Jun-beom's vocal performance on September 13.
Inside the festival grounds, there was a theme pavilion showcasing the agriculture of Jangsu. Visitors could learn about the agricultural practices and specialty products of the region.
During the event, the 20th Jangsu Apple Competition was also held, displaying various apples, including those that won awards.
Exiting the theme pavilion, visitors could find the Local Food Zone on the right, offering a wide range of dining options from restaurants to snacks. Menus and prices were posted at the entrance for easy reference.
Inside, tables and chairs were available, allowing visitors to sit and enjoy their meals. It was a perfect spot to relax when feeling hungry while exploring the festival with family or friends.
Walking up the hill from the Local Food Zone, visitors would arrive at the Hanwoo Beef Zone, where they could select their desired cuts of Hanwoo beef. After purchasing, they could grill their meat in a designated area.
The festival also featured various hands-on experiences, including a space where visitors could interact with industrial insects, observing everything from larvae to bees.
As I wandered around, I found photo zones scattered throughout the festival. I took a fun picture at a spot featuring a cute apple face, making it a great memento of my visit.
Continuing along the festival path led to the Uiam Forest Rest Area, where a wooden playground was integrated with nature. There were spaces for children to play, and mini tents offered shade for visitors looking to take a break.
As night fell, the festival transformed. The Uiam Forest Rest Area lit up, and the photo zones featuring hanging umbrellas came to life. The places I passed by during the day became attractive spots for nighttime photos.
The Red Food Zone was also illuminated, with visitors enjoying their meals after a long day at the festival.
At night, the area around Uiam Lake lit up beautifully, with colorful lights illuminating the fountain and bridges, creating a magical atmosphere. The surroundings were designed like a photo zone, making it perfect for capturing memories.
With its diverse spaces and programs, it's helpful to check the festival map if it's your first visit.
