After hearing about the blooming of yellow cosmos on social media, I couldn't resist visiting as part of the Hamann reporter group. Although social media indicated a bloom rate of about 60-70%, I found it to be around 30% on September 8.
While some areas had yellow flowers, it wasn’t the grand spectacle I had hoped for. The designated walking paths were not yet fully established, requiring me to navigate through some weeds to get a closer look and take photos.
Be cautious! There are drainage ditches between the dirt paths and grassy areas, so watch your step carefully.
3. Expected Peak Bloom Time and Best Photography Hours
Hamann Akyang Dookbang has vast fields of flowers like poppies and yellow cosmos, making it a great spot for beautiful displays. Photographers often visit before sunrise to capture the mist rising over the fields.
Additionally, taking photos during the golden hour, one hour before sunset, is also recommended. The peak blooming time for yellow cosmos is expected to be between 11 AM and 3 PM, especially on weekends when parking may be crowded.
The combination of the clear autumn sky and vibrant orange petals was truly healing for the soul.

As of September 8, it seems we still have a bit of time before the full bloom of yellow cosmos at Hamann Akyang Dookbang. I recommend visiting with some leisure time.
4. Shortest Route to Akyangru and Viewpoints
While walking through Akyang Dookbang, you can see a small pavilion on the cliff across the river, known as Akyangru.
Established in 1857, it was named after the famous scenic area of 'Akyang' in China. It was destroyed during the Korean War but was restored and rebuilt in 1963.
It felt incomplete to visit only Hamann Akyang Dookbang without seeing the beautiful cosmos from Akyangru as well. From the pavilion, I enjoyed a panoramic view of the blooming fields and the river, providing a refreshing and relaxing experience.

1. Is vehicle access allowed on Akyang Dookbang Road?
No, it is only accessible by foot, although official or emergency vehicles may occasionally be permitted.
2. Are dogs allowed?
Yes, as long as they are on a leash. Please remember to bring waste bags!
3. Is it stroller or wheelchair accessible?
The walking path is flat, but the areas leading to the flower fields consist of dirt and rocky paths.
4. Is there ample shade available?
There are small shelters along the path, but they are limited. Some shaded benches are available within the flower fields, but access may be restricted.
5. Can I fly a drone?
Drone flying requires approval due to the nearby Hamann airfield. Please be cautious about regulations.
6. Personal Impressions
I was disappointed to find a difference between the blooming information online and the actual conditions during my visit. However, the lack of crowds allowed for a peaceful experience and made photography easier. I look forward to returning when the flowers are in full bloom.
