Exploring the Natural Beauty of Dalum Mountain

Dalum Mountain, standing at 588 meters above sea level, is the first of the eight scenic spots in Gijang. Climbing to the top offers breathtaking views of the East Sea.
Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Gijang, the National Dalum Mountain Nature Recreation Forest, the first of its kind in Busan, was established in 2018 on the western slopes of Dalum Mountain.
During weekends, it can be challenging to find accommodation due to the influx of visitors.
The walking trails leading to Yongcheon Reservoir and woodworking experiences are available for both guests and visitors. (The recreation forest is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, closed every Tuesday.)
The road to the National Dalum Mountain Nature Recreation Forest is well-maintained, although there are sections with steep cliffs that may make the drive a bit tricky.
While the road isn't wide, there are sufficient areas to pass oncoming vehicles. After passing the Gijang Youth Center and driving about 3 kilometers into the woods, you will reach the recreation forest, where you can immediately feel the refreshing air.
Upon arrival, we first visited the visitor center for guidance. Both guests and visitors can inquire about entrance and parking fees at the center.
The National Dalum Mountain Nature Recreation Forest offers forest experiences, and a woodworking workshop is located on the second floor of the visitor center.
Visiting the woodworking workshop, we were captivated by various creations and enjoyed a range of woodworking activities in a pleasant setting.
The walking trail from the recreation forest leads to Yongcheon Reservoir. You can take either a longer or shorter route to reach the reservoir.
In September, as summer fades, we walked through the sponge gourd tunnel adorned with hanging gourds, while red flowers bloomed beside it.
Following the walking path, we encountered accommodation buildings that resembled houses from fairy tales.
At a fork in the path, taking the route towards Yongcheon Reservoir leads to a relatively short 1.4 km trail taking about 40 minutes, while the longer trail stretches about 3 km and takes approximately 70 minutes.
As we walked down the trail, we noticed the excellent air quality and the absence of insects. However, caution is advised due to signs warning of snakes and poisonous insects.
The forest path, which captures the essence of all four seasons, still bore the vibrant colors of summer. Imagining the autumn foliage brings a smile to my face.
At the end of the narrow trail, we found the path leading to Cheolma-myeon and Yongcheon Reservoir.
After a moment of contemplation on which direction to take, we decided to head back to the Dalum National Recreation Forest.
The accommodation at the National Dalum Mountain Nature Recreation Forest resembles a house from a storybook. It appears to be a one-story building, but descending reveals another floor, making it a two-story structure.
The well-maintained lawn, lush green, harmonizes beautifully with the charming landscaping.
The second floor accommodates six guests per room, while the first floor has rooms for four. The entrance is visible as you walk down the path between the houses, leading to a deck where you can immerse yourself in the forest atmosphere.
The second-floor forest culture recreation center has nine rooms for six guests, featuring a terrace with stunning views. The wooden deck available for guests is located in the grassy courtyard.
Visiting the National Dalum Mountain Nature Recreation Forest left me with a sense of longing. I hope to book a stay next time to enjoy a longer visit.
