The cool breeze begins to blow in the evenings, heralding the arrival of the festival season. Are you looking for a special travel destination in Hamann to create unforgettable memories with your family in the beautiful September sky? If so, I highly recommend visiting the Hamann Malisan Tumuli, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites that preserves the mysteries of the ancient Arakaya from 1,500 years ago.
From August 28 (Friday) to September 10 (Thursday), the 'World Heritage Festival Gaya Tumuli' will be held to promote the UNESCO World Heritage value of the seven Gaya Tumuli. I visited the Hamann Malisan Tumuli to experience this event.
UNESCO World Heritage Sites are designated by UNESCO based on the 'World Heritage Convention' signed in 1972, recognizing their universal value that should be preserved by the global community. The World Heritage Festival is a cultural heritage festival that operates performances, experiences, exhibitions, and seminars at local sites to promote the value of domestic World Heritage Sites. The festival spans across the seven Gaya Tumuli, with various events taking place around the Hamann Malisan Tumuli and the Hamann Museum.
During the festival, temporary parking lots are available at the Hamann Museum parking area and surroundings, allowing visitors to comfortably drive without parking worries even on weekends.

The 2026 World Heritage Festival - Gaya Tumuli is designed to allow more people to experience the value of the UNESCO World Heritage Gaya Tumuli through various performances, exhibitions, educational, and experiential programs. It is not just a viewing space but a place to walk and enjoy, making it a great festival to visit with loved ones and family.
During the festival, interactive booths were set up in front of the Hamann Museum, making it easy for children to learn about the tumuli. The program timings were clearly outlined, with various activities mainly scheduled for weekends.
There were also events where visitors could receive various prizes. Particularly, participating in the follow event exclusive to Hamann allows you to receive a keycap shaped like the tumuli for free, which is very popular among children. The World Heritage Festival - Gaya Tumuli also featured a stamp tour connecting the seven Gaya Tumuli, with special souvenirs capturing the charm of Gaya culture available for the first 300 participants.
An information center was also established to help visitors learn about the characteristics of the seven tumuli at a glance, making it an educational experience. Various artifacts excavated from the tumuli were on display as well.
Programs such as 'I am a Gaya Artisan,' 'I am a Korean Archaeologist,' and 'We are World Heritage Interpreters' offered hands-on experiences for children, creating special memories for families.
On weekday evenings during the festival, special programs were held at the seven Gaya Tumuli, including the delightful 'Yagum Yagum' program featuring beautiful Gayageum melodies and various performances for free. The performance venue changes according to the schedule; on August 31, it took place at the Hamann Malisan Tumuli.
Arriving around 7:30 PM, I was greeted by candle lights flickering softly along the Malisan Tumuli as darkness fell. Having only visited during the day, seeing the sparkling stars and the tumuli at night was breathtaking. The performances set against the backdrop of the Malisan Tumuli, featuring beautiful melodies and ballet dancers, felt particularly special.
The enchanting Gayageum performance was a truly healing experience, immersing me in culture and art. After the performance, participants joined in a community dance, filling the air with laughter against the stunning backdrop of the Malisan Tumuli.
After the show, the darkened sky illuminated by the candlelit path created a mystical atmosphere. Capture beautiful memories with loved ones against the backdrop of the tumuli.
Walking along the beautiful ridge of the Hamann Malisan Tumuli was a healing experience. The 'World Heritage Festival - Gaya Tumuli' was a meaningful time to reflect on the historical and cultural value of the tumuli.
