Today, I'd like to introduce a great indoor destination to visit with your kids over the weekend.
Under the blue sky, filled with wonderful sculptures and ancient artifacts, lies the Gyeongsan Municipal Museum!
Admission is completely free, and the museum offers a rich variety of experiences and exhibitions on each floor, making it a delightful visit without any burden.
Location: 46 Museum Road, Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Last admission: 5:00 PM)
Closed on Mondays
Parking: Free
When I arrived, the clear sky instantly lifted my spirits as I began my outdoor stroll.
Upon entering the outdoor area, a large tower and sculpture caught my eye!
This is the 'Statue of the Three Great Sages of Gyeongsan', honoring the revered monks Wonhyo, Seolchong, and Ilyeon, beautifully set against the blue sky.
As soon as I stepped inside the building, I was greeted by an adorable large balloon character modeled after a face-shaped pottery. It’s a perfect photo spot for kids!
The lobby also features a comfortable resting area, making it a pleasant place to relax.
On the first floor, you can explore the lives of ancient Gyeongsan people through various artifacts from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages, including crescent-shaped stone knives and beautiful jade ornaments.
One fascinating discovery was a 'shark bone' relic found in a tomb from the Three Kingdoms period. Learning that the tradition of offering dombeok (a type of fish) during rituals in Daegu and Gyeongsan dates back to ancient times was truly intriguing!
As I ventured deeper, I encountered dazzling gold crowns, earrings, necklaces, and even gold shoes, all showcasing the opulence of the ruling class.
The highlight of my visit was the actual pottery known as 'the face of God', excavated from the Sowolri site. Its charming and cute expressions were captivating, and I made sure to capture every angle in photos!
On the second floor, the layout guides visitors through history in chronological order, showcasing key artifacts such as the 'Smile of Gyeongsan' from the Goryeo period, with its adorable features that are sure to bring a smile to your face.
In addition, the second floor is filled with beautiful artifacts from the Joseon period, such as wooden books, ceramics, and exquisite accessories.
It’s hard to believe that admission is free given the wealth of exhibits and the refreshing atmosphere. The staff was incredibly friendly, making my visit even more enjoyable.
