Family Trip to Jeju Island: Celebrating My Father's 60th Birthday

Last week, we went on a family trip to Jeju Island to celebrate my father's 60th birthday. We paid special attention to choosing restaurants, and my father particularly enjoyed a local eatery near the Jeju airport.
1. Gungseochae Jeju Tapdong Branch
Location: 6, Tapdong-ro 11-gil, Jeju City, Jeju
Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Menu: Octopus Sashimi Set for 4 people - 159,000 KRW
We took my parents, who love Korean food, to a restaurant called Gungseochae, known for its grilled cutlassfish. We intentionally went in the evening to enjoy the beautiful sunset view through the large windows.
To make the trip comfortable for my parents, we rented a larger electric vehicle. Parking was a bit challenging due to the size, but this restaurant had ample parking space on the first floor and even offered electric vehicle charging.
Once we reached the second floor, the expansive view through the large windows was breathtaking, creating a refreshing atmosphere. The spacious interior made it perfect for family gatherings while enjoying the scenery.
The restaurant's menu caters to all ages, so we noticed families with children and babies. They even had high chairs for the little ones, ensuring a comfortable dining experience.
We ordered the octopus sashimi set. The presentation included whole grilled cutlassfish and cutlassfish stew, which were eye-catching and delicious.
The side dishes served with our meal were well-balanced. They avoided overly spicy options, which complemented the savory cutlassfish stew and grilled fish perfectly.
For me, kimchi is crucial in any Korean meal. If it lacks flavor or freshness, it can ruin the entire meal. My family enjoys eating a lot of kimchi, and we found the self-serve bar to be an excellent choice.
The refreshing kimchi paired well with the thick slices of pork, and the meat was tender and satisfying. The flavors were well-balanced, making it a delightful meal.
Among the dishes, the marinated squid salad stood out as a unique delicacy. Its tangy flavor and crunchy texture provided a refreshing contrast to the heavier dishes.
We also enjoyed abalone sashimi, which was surprisingly good as a side dish for soju. The firm texture and fresh ocean flavor paired excellently with the clean taste of soju.
Despite being a restaurant near Jeju airport, the variety of dishes kept us engaged and satisfied throughout the meal.
2. Garam Dolsotbap
Address: 332, Jungmun Tourist Road, Seogwipo City, Jeju
Operating Hours: 08:30 AM - 08:30 PM
Menu: Abalone Dolsotbap
The abalone dolsotbap was a highlight. As soon as the wooden lid was lifted, the rich and nutty aroma of the sea filled the air, creating an unforgettable taste experience.
3. Dotorikitchen Main Branch
Address: 59, Bukseong-ro, Jeju City
Operating Hours: 11:00 AM - 05:00 PM (Last Order: 04:30 PM)
Menu: Cheongyul Soba
As the weather warmed up, I found myself craving refreshing and light dishes. I was delighted to try the sweet and tangy soba filled with fresh cheongyul (green tangerine).
4. Iltongiban
Address: 25, Jungang-ro 2-gil, Jeju City
Operating Hours: 12:00 PM - 11:30 PM
Menu: Assorted Seafood
The soft sea urchin roe and abalone sashimi were surprisingly fresh, lacking any fishy taste. The natural ocean flavor made them enjoyable on their own, but they also paired well with unique combinations.
5. Delmundo
Address: 519-10, Johamhaean-ro, Jocheon-eup, Jeju
Operating Hours: Delmundo 06:00 AM - 12:00 AM, Beach Wave 06:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Menu: Gourmet Butter Salt Bread
The spacious interior and outdoor terrace provided a perfect place to relax without the hustle and bustle. I recommend visiting this beautiful beachside spot for a healing experience.
