Last weekend, my husband and I had a craving for seafood, so we decided to visit Noryangjin Fish Market.
Usually, we take our seafood home to enjoy, but this time we chose to select our favorites and head up to the restaurant floor to eat right away.
We visited Woojeong Fisheries, located at stall number 094.
As we walked around the tanks, we were delighted to see a variety of seafood, including blue crabs, shrimp, snow crabs, king crabs, and various shellfish, making it quite entertaining to browse.
Woojeong Fisheries sources all its seafood through daily auctions.
Instead of focusing on the cheapest products, they prioritize A-grade items with good yield and condition.
This makes it an excellent choice for those who value quality over price.
The first item we checked out was the Noryangjin blue crab.
We were able to see them moving in the tank, allowing us to compare sizes and conditions before making our selection.
Prices can vary based on size, gender, and daily auction quantities, so it’s best to check on the day of your visit.
After inquiring about the price for 1 kg of blue crab, we selected the right amount for our meal.
The staff allowed us to see the scale during weighing, so we could confirm the weight ourselves.
They patiently explained everything we were curious about, making it easy to place our order even as first-time visitors.
Next, we chose some Noryangjin shrimp.
Watching the lively shrimp in the tank helped us check their size and condition before ordering.
Like the blue crabs, prices for the shrimp can also vary based on daily supply and size.
What I particularly liked was that they provided tartar sauce with the shrimp purchase.
Among the places I checked out, this was the only one that offered tartar sauce with shrimp, making it a unique offering.
Additionally, when you buy large crustaceans like snow crabs or king crabs, they provide not only basic dipping sauce but also chili sauce, tartar sauce, and wasabi mayo.
You can even get cheese sauce, which can be used to top fried rice and then heated in the microwave for a quick meal.
The packaging also caught my attention.
Instead of the usual white styrofoam, they used gold packaging, which looked quite neat.
As the saying goes, "Good-looking rice cake tastes good too," it seemed like a thoughtful touch for gifting or sharing with others.
After ordering Noryangjin blue crab, Noryangjin shrimp, and a sashimi platter, we headed up to the second floor for dipping sauces.
Being able to eat the seafood we selected without moving it was one of the delights of the fish market!
As we waited while enjoying sashimi, our Noryangjin blue crab arrived.
Opening the shell and enjoying the sweet, moist meat was delightful, especially paired with the innards.
Having chosen it after seeing it alive at the market made it even more enjoyable.
Soon after, the Noryangjin shrimp came out, beautifully cooked.
Peeling the shell and taking a bite revealed the firm, juicy meat that kept us coming back for more.
Alternating between sashimi, blue crab, and shrimp provided a diverse and satisfying meal for both of us.
If you want to enjoy the blue crab at home, they offer takeout, and you can select the amount of shrimp you need.
Woojeong Fisheries accepts Onnuri gift vouchers for all menu items and also allows the use of livelihood support funds, which is worth noting before payment.
During weekends or peak hours, there might be delays for steaming large crabs or waiting for tables on the second floor.
If you dislike waiting, it might be more convenient to make a reservation before your visit.
From the selection process to honest weighing and friendly service, we had a comfortable experience.
Most importantly, being able to choose high-quality seafood and eat it right away in the restaurant was a truly satisfying meal.
Overall, this visit was another delightful experience!
