The Importance of Accessible Sports Facilities in Dangjin

To maintain a consistent exercise routine, the size of the facilities is important, but equally crucial is whether the environment is comfortable for everyone to use.
In Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, there is a space where citizens can engage in both recreational sports activities and professional training. This is the Dangjin National Sports Center.
This facility serves as a representative sports space in Dangjin, going beyond just being an indoor sports facility; it plays a vital role in promoting health management and leisure activities for citizens as well as providing training space for local athletes.
On the first floor of the Dangjin National Sports Center, the Haenaru Bowling Alley operates. It is a popular spot for citizens who enjoy bowling as a hobby, as well as for club activities, attracting a diverse age group from students to working professionals.
The atmosphere is designed to be friendly and welcoming, making it an ideal place for families and friends to visit and enjoy leisurely bowling, leading to consistent use as a recreational sports space.
On the second floor, there is a multipurpose gymnasium. The entrance to the gym is located at the back of the building and can be used by reservation. It serves as a venue for indoor sports activities such as badminton, as well as various events and sports programs.
During my visit, the entrance was closed due to a lack of reservations, but I could sense that this space is actively used for local sports activities.
Across from the Dangjin National Sports Center, there is a separate sports center building. This facility is more focused on professional training for the Dangjin city teams rather than general public use.
Athletes preparing for various competitions, such as the National Sports Festival and the Chungnam Provincial Sports Festival, utilize this facility, which includes training spaces for boxing, judo, taekwondo, kendo, and table tennis.
As athletes from various sports train in one location, this space plays a central role in the development of local sports. Notably, Dangjin is recognized as one of the regions that consistently achieve good results in the Chungnam Provincial Sports Festival.
Judo is also one of the strong disciplines, and the trophies displayed in front of the judo hall showcase past achievements. With the 2026 Chungnam Provincial Sports Festival scheduled to be held in Dangjin next September, the local athletes are focused on training for positive outcomes.
Nearby the sports facilities, Gyerim Park offers a pleasant area to explore. Within the park, there is a forest experience center designed for children to play in nature, making it a popular spot for daycare and kindergarten experiences.
On weekends, many families visit, and it’s common to see children experiencing nature and playing actively in the woods.
Gyerim Park also features a barefoot walking path, which has gained considerable attention recently. This path allows visitors to walk on a trail covered with yellow soil, providing a tactile experience of the earth, and serves as a walking course for health and healing.
Convenient facilities such as shoe lockers and foot washing stations are also available, enhancing the overall experience.
The barefoot walking path naturally connects to the Jangsusan Forest Trail. Although it is located close to the city center, the forest atmosphere is well-preserved, making it a pleasant place for light walks, enhanced by the shade of dense pine trees.
The area around the Dangjin National Sports Center is not just a space for exercise but rather a recreational sports area where citizens' health, relaxation, and leisure activities come together.
It serves as a vibrant sports space for a wide range of people, from general citizens to professional athletes, contributing to a lively daily life in Dangjin.
