As autumn approaches, while the vibrant foliage spots are appealing, the tranquil atmosphere found in serene temples is equally delightful.
Located in Jincheon, Chungbuk, Yonghwa Temple is a historic site where you can encounter a stone Buddha statue, allowing for a peaceful stroll amidst its calming ambiance.
Yonghwa Temple is just about a 5-minute drive from Jincheon County Office, making it easily accessible from the city center. There is a parking lot available, making it convenient for visitors, and nearby, you can find famous cafes and the Gyeolmi Mountain Green Sharing Forest, perfect for a combined visit.
Upon arriving at Yonghwa Temple, the calmness enveloped me as I transitioned from the bustling cityscape to the temple grounds. In autumn, the changing colors of the surrounding trees create a picturesque scene that harmonizes beautifully with the temple architecture.
The first structure that caught my eye was the main hall, known as Bakgabeomjeon at Yonghwa Temple. The hall features a grand roof, exuding a sense of magnificence, especially with the morning sunlight streaming in, enhancing the autumn ambiance.
In front of Bakgabeomjeon, there is a small hall, Yeoraejeon, which houses a statue of Buddha, symbolizing enlightenment.
Next to Yeoraejeon stands the iconic stone Buddha statue of Yonghwa Temple, designated as a cultural heritage of Chungcheongbuk-do. This impressive 7-meter tall statue showcases the characteristics of Goryeo Dynasty sculptures.
Passing by the stone Buddha, I encountered the temple's office, featuring a traditional roof that perfectly complements the temple's atmosphere.
In front of the office, a resting area has been created, where visitors can enjoy the gentle autumn breeze.
Above the stairs leading from the office is the Jijangjeon, a hall dedicated to the Bodhisattva of Earthly Desires.
As I ascended the stairs, I was greeted by blooming cosmos flowers, fully immersing me in the autumn spirit.
From Jijangjeon, gazing at the roofscape of Yonghwa Temple, I felt a sense of tranquility wash over me. The harmony of the sunlit tiled roofs and temple buildings truly embodies the unique atmosphere of Korean temples.
The charm of Yonghwa Temple lies not in extravagant sights but in the ancient stone Buddha statue and the peaceful autumn scenery. Although it is a small temple, I encourage you to take your time exploring and savoring the autumn essence.
