Did you know that the hometown of the Silla hero, General Kim Yushin, is located in Jincheon, Chungbuk?
This is where the footsteps of General Kim Yushin, who achieved the great feat of unifying the Three Kingdoms, are deeply rooted. The tranquil forest paths, which have quietly embraced a millennium of history, and the site designated as Historic Site No. 414, 'The Birthplace and Tomb of Kim Yushin in Jincheon,' are right next to us.
As we step into autumn, this place offers a beautiful landscape adorned with yellow leaves, making it perfect for a leisurely walk.
After parking in the lot and walking along the trail, the main scenery of the Birthplace of Kim Yushin unfolds before your eyes. The signboards provide detailed information about the life of General Kim Yushin and the historical significance of the site, making it an excellent spot to stop and read, especially if you are visiting with children.
As you continue walking inward, you will come across a sign indicating a place once surrounded by a large wall, known as 'Dam-an-bat,' along with an open space. Directional signs pointing to 'Yeonbojeong' and 'Kim Yushin's Tomb' are kindly placed throughout the path, ensuring visitors won't get lost.
Although I attempted to walk to 'Kim Yushin's Tomb,' I ultimately had to turn back without finding it, which was disappointing.
Around the birthplace of Kim Yushin, there are benches and resting areas where you can take a break and enjoy a leisurely stroll. The ginkgo trees, which testify to the passage of time, seem to protect the birthplace, and I look forward to seeing them turn even more yellow in autumn.
A little further along, you will encounter a traditional house, which is a restored administrative office where General Kim Seohyun, the father of Kim Yushin, served as the governor of Mannogun during the time Silla expanded into the Han River area. This is also the historical site where the hero Kim Yushin was born in 595.
Kim Yushin was born here in the 17th year of King Jinpyeong's reign (595). He was born to Kim Seohyun, a descendant of the Gaya royal family, and a Silla royal (sacred bone) woman, making this a symbolic place where he spent his childhood and laid the foundation for the unification of the Three Kingdoms.
This site, which had remained for a long time as just a ground, has been restored in the form of a traditional house to honor its historical significance and to serve as an educational and tourist resource, making it a great place to visit with children.
Walking along the historical traces of the unification of the Three Kingdoms, I was able to experience both healing and learning at the Birthplace and Tomb of Kim Yushin in Jincheon!
On a sunny autumn day, there is no better outing than to escape the complexities of daily life and walk the healing forest paths while feeling the breath of our historical hero.
I highly recommend embarking on a meaningful and warm historical journey to the cozy hometown of Jincheon, Chungbuk, which has embraced a thousand years of history.
