Connecting 1,028 Islands for Health!

Shinan County Health Center Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation

In regions where access to hospitals is challenging due to numerous islands,

we strive to ensure that all residents enjoy a healthy daily life!

The Shinan County Health Center has been recognized for its continuous efforts

to protect the health of local residents,

receiving the Minister of Health and Welfare's institutional commendation.

This award acknowledges our contributions to improving healthcare conditions in island areas,

implementing health projects tailored to local characteristics,

and promoting public health and healthcare development.

Celebrating 80 Years of Health Center Establishment

On October 28, Shinan County received the Minister of Health and Welfare's institutional commendation

at the '80th Anniversary of Health Center Establishment' ceremony.

This event was organized to encourage institutions and individuals

who have contributed to the development of local healthcare.

A total of 20 awards were presented, including 16 for organizations and 4 for individuals.

The Shinan County Health Center was highly praised for enhancing healthcare access

for residents in medically vulnerable island areas

and for implementing various health projects suited to local conditions.

40 Health Institutions Across 1,028 Islands

Shinan County consists of a total of 1,028 islands,

including 83 inhabited and 945 uninhabited islands.

Traveling by boat between islands presents challenges in accessing medical facilities.

To overcome these geographical limitations,

the Shinan County Health Center provides healthcare services

through a network of 40 health institutions, including health centers and clinics.

Key services include:

- Mobile medical visits to vulnerable island areas

- Mobile dental care services

- Early dementia screenings

- Mobile medical visits to senior centers

We continue to provide tailored public health services,

ensuring residents can receive necessary medical care without traveling long distances.

Reducing Oxygen Cylinder Transport Burdens and Enhancing Emergency Response!

In case of emergencies on the islands, securing medical oxygen has been challenging.

Previously, oxygen cylinders had to be transported by boat from the mainland,

which involved safety management and additional procedures,

making rapid response difficult.

Now, we are strengthening emergency medical response capabilities

with medical oxygen generators!

Shinan County is collaborating with Jeollanam-do and the Korea Health Promotion Institute

to introduce medical oxygen generators in healthcare improvement projects,

prioritizing equipment placement in health posts and clinics in high-frequency emergency areas.

What is a medical oxygen generator?

It is a device that separates and concentrates oxygen from the air using electricity,

providing necessary oxygen without the burden of transporting cylinders.

This allows for quicker responses in emergencies on the islands.

Shinan County continues to implement comprehensive healthcare policies

to protect the lives and safety of residents.

From Vaccinations to Tailored Education, We Are Committed to Infectious Disease Prevention!

To safeguard the health of residents,

preventive efforts are just as important as treatment after disease onset.

Shinan County conducts influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations

at all health institutions, including those in island areas.

Additionally, we provide tailored preventive education

considering the characteristics of vulnerable groups,

such as farmers, seniors, and seasonal foreign workers.

Through these efforts, we aim to enhance residents' awareness of infectious disease prevention

and strengthen a comprehensive prevention and management system suited to local conditions.

Ensuring Healthy Daily Life for All on the Islands!

Shinan County Mayor Kim Tae-seong stated that this recognition

is a result of the hard work of health institution staff and the community

who strive for the health and happiness of residents.

We will continue to provide healthcare services tailored to local conditions

to ensure that no resident is left behind due to the abundance of islands.

Shinan County will maintain its role as a health guardian,

ensuring that every resident can access the necessary healthcare services.
