Colorful Rice Field Art at Mungwang Reservoir,

Capturing the Spirit of the Red Horse

I recently visited the colorful rice field art created around Mungwang Reservoir in Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. The idea of painting with colored rice in the fields was quite unique, and the well-maintained walking paths around the reservoir made it an easy and enjoyable visit.

The colorful rice field art has been a major attraction in Goesan since 2008, aimed at showcasing the excellence of traditional agricultural culture.

To view the rice field art, you cannot go directly to the reservoir; instead, you need to park in the designated area and walk along the deck path.

While it requires about a 30-minute stroll, the surrounding scenery was more beautiful than expected, making the walk enjoyable throughout.

As you walk along the ginkgo tree path by the reservoir, the rice field art gradually unfolds before your eyes, turning the walk itself into a journey.

Various attractions such as a wildflower park, a peninsula-shaped wetland, a salt culture museum, a sunshine square, and a salt experience center are also located around Mungwang Reservoir, ensuring that visitors won't feel disappointed just seeing the rice field art.

If you're looking for a light picnic spot during your Goesan trip, this is a perfect place to stop by. Especially for fishing enthusiasts, this area is an ideal travel destination.

Fishing usually takes place in the reed fields and on floating platforms, making it suitable for beginners and families. The entrance of the reed fields and the ginkgo tree path is particularly good for catching carp in the fall, so I hope you have a great time.

As you walk slowly along the deck path, you will encounter Yanggokjeong, the only resting spot along the way. If you feel tired during your walk, take a moment to rest here.

Walking along the lush paths, I enjoyed some exercise for the first time in a while. I lifted my gaze from the ground to the sky and took in the various scents from the surrounding forest, momentarily forgetting the stresses of daily life.

Sitting for a moment at Yanggokjeong, representative of the ginkgo tree path, I absorbed the morning scenery of Mungwang Reservoir. The unique charm of this place makes each second feel different, naturally encouraging a return visit.

As I got closer to the colorful rice, I learned various information related to this site. The rice fields are meticulously planted with purple, red, and yellow rice on a green rice base to create large images, which are redrawn each year based on a theme symbolizing that year.

This year, in celebration of the Year of the Red Horse, the theme is 'Red Horse,' representing vitality and ambition, completed in the fields of Shingi-ri, Mungwang-myeon.

It's worth noting that this artwork was lovingly created by young farmers from Goesan, making the scenery even more precious.

Thanks to my early visit, I was able to capture the sunrise over Mungwang Reservoir on camera. During hot weather like now, I hope visitors come early to enjoy the unique charm of this place through a leisurely walk.
