Exploring the Beautiful Camping Sites of Ulleungdo

Ulleungdo is a place where you can see both the sea and mountains from anywhere.

These days, many people visit Ulleungdo not just for sightseeing but also for camping.

In Ulleung-gun, there are several campgrounds where travelers and locals can stay in nature, including Ungpo Campground, National Leisure Camping Site, Hakpo Campground, and Namseo Campground.

I spent a day at Ungpo Campground, which allows camping without a reservation as long as there is space available.

The campground is located a bit away from the village, but it offers a cozy spot with a direct view of the sea.

I also checked out the National Leisure Camping Site, Hakpo, and Namseo Campgrounds for future visits.

Ulleung Ungpo Campground

Location: 22 Hyunpo 2-gil, Buk-myeon, Ulleung-gun

Facilities: Shower rooms, male and female restrooms, washbasins, electrical facilities

Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

First-come, first-served registration on-site; as of August 2026, the usage fee is free (subject to change to paid in the future)

Number of sites: 7

Ulleung Ungpo Campground is a stunning spot to watch the sunset over the sea!

During the day, I explored nearby attractions and utilized the campground in the evening.

No prior reservation is needed; if there's space, you can register at the management office and set up your tent on an available site.

Fortunately, I found an empty spot.

You can stay for a maximum of 2 nights and 3 days.

The site area may be small, but the facilities are clean and convenient.

Waves crash right in front of the campground, with coastal cliffs visible in the distance.

To the right, you can see the Elephant Rock, one of Ulleungdo's three major sea views, and at night, you can spot squid fishing boats.

In the evening, the Dokdo Marine Research Center lights up, creating a beautiful walking path where you can hear the sound of the waves.

It's conveniently located near Hyunpo Village, making it easy to access convenience stores or restaurants.

However, since it's close to the sea, be cautious when setting up tents or tarps on windy days.

Please note that it may close depending on the weather.

Ulleung National Leisure Camping Site

Location: 1580 Ulleung Cycle Road, Seo-myeon, Ulleung-gun

Facilities: Shower rooms, male and female restrooms, washbasins, electrical facilities (available in the management building)

Usage fee: Paid

Number of sites: 13

I visited the National Leisure Camping Site located next to Ulleung Cycle Road.

This campground was remodeled from a closed school site.

Besides camping decks, there are facilities like accommodations and bungalows, but they are currently not in operation.

The campground has 13 sites.

Restrooms, shower rooms, and cooking spaces are conveniently located inside the management building.

Most importantly, it's right next to the Ulleung Cycle Road, making it easy to find.

Whether you are driving or using public transportation, it is relatively accessible.

Ulleung Hakpo Campground

Location: 133-11 Hakpo-gil, Seo-myeon, Ulleung-gun

Facilities: Shower rooms, male and female restrooms, washbasins, electrical facilities, parking lot

Usage fee: Paid

Number of sites: 12

Hakpo Campground is the most popular among campers visiting Ulleungdo.

Located in Hakpo-ri, this campground has excellent facilities.

Since it requires walking up a steep path, it may be challenging to access via public transport.

It operates 12 camping decks, and although not large, it is well-maintained and surrounded by beautiful flowers.

Above all, you can enjoy a romantic view of the sea right in front of the campground.

It is known as the most beautiful campground on Ulleungdo!

However, be mindful of the slope when heading down to the beach.

Ulleung Namseo Campground

Location: 63-1 Namseo-ri, Ulleung-gun

Facilities: Male and female restrooms, washbasins, no shower facilities, tables and benches available

First-come, first-served registration on-site (management office); as of August 2026, the usage fee is free

Number of sites: 12

Namseo Campground has a different atmosphere compared to the previously visited campgrounds.

It's a great place to relax quietly while enjoying the surrounding nature.

The camping site offers ample space, making it ideal for those who want to avoid crowded areas.

Nearby, you can visit the Umbrella National Museum and the Namseo Sunset Observatory, where you can learn about Ulleungdo's history and experience riding a monorail.

Especially at the Namseo Sunset Observatory, you can witness the beautiful sunset over Ulleungdo, making it a memorable evening.

If you're planning a trip to Ulleungdo, I recommend adding a day of camping to your itinerary alongside famous tourist spots!
