From the moment you enter, you're greeted by a cheerful balloon arch and a scarecrow, creating a delightful atmosphere.
It's not just a rustic charm; it's a warm and friendly village vibe.
This festival, born from the words ‘village’ and ‘vacation’, is called ‘Charming Village Vacation’.
I attended the second edition of this festival, held for the second time this year.
At first, I thought it would be a small festival in the countryside, but upon arrival, my perspective changed.
“Ah, this is what a real village festival feels like.”
Instead of a grand stage, the focus was on the people, making the village the true stage of the festival.
A phrase that caught my eye on the poster read, “We have a special gift for every visitor.”
It was heartwarming to see that they prepared small gifts for everyone who came to the festival.
It felt like a genuine expression of gratitude, not just a desire for more visitors.
The festival took place on August 28, 2026, from 5 PM to 9 PM at the Hope Sharing Center in Jeongmi-myeon and the Dangjin Northern Community Center.
This event was hosted by the Jeongmi-myeon Basic Living Base Development Committee and organized by the Dangjin Northern Community Center, Jeongmi-myeon Residents' Council, and the Happy Sharing Jeongmi Social Cooperative.
What I appreciated was that the festival was not created by someone from outside but was organized by locals who understand the village's needs.
As a result, the feeling of a ‘neighborhood festival’ was palpable everywhere.
At the entrance, visitors were welcomed with free ice cream!
While an ice cream cone may not seem like a grand gift, it left a lasting impression on me.
Handing out refreshing ice cream on a hot August day felt like a heartfelt gesture: “Thank you for coming in this heat.”
Seeing children happily receiving their ice cream made me realize how thoughtfully the festival was prepared.
While growing the scale of the Dangjin Festival is important, it might be these small gestures that truly touch people's hearts.
For some, it was just an ice cream, but for others, it cooled them down and created joyful memories.
I understood better why the Charming Village Vacation is such a beloved festival.
The gifts were not meant to attract people but to warmly welcome those who came.
Thus, that single ice cream remained in my memory longer than any program I saw that day.
Festivals are ultimately made by people, and a good festival cares for the hearts of its attendees.
The Charming Village Vacation was a delightful experience for families, with activities like making cute accessories and photo zones to capture memories.
Children were busy with activities while adults captured those moments on camera.
“Mom, let’s try this too!” is a phrase often heard when attending a festival with kids.
It may be more important to create shared experiences than to show children everything at a festival.

There were even experience zones linked with Shinseong University, offering various activities like making a cocktail with makgeolli and creating pest control sprays.
Another highlight was the flea market, featuring organic produce, handmade items, and second-hand goods.
In today’s world, we often consider where products are made and who made them, making local markets even more appealing.
These unique items cannot be found in large shopping malls, and the market also served as a space for people to connect and share stories.
The balloon experience booth by Pungpung Balloon is always a hit, adding vibrancy to the festival atmosphere.
A simple balloon can create joyful moments, stopping children in their tracks and bringing smiles to faces.
Of course, food is essential at any festival. This year’s Charming Village Vacation featured local delicacies like millet cakes, tteokbokki, pancakes, and refreshing drinks.
While millet cakes may be unfamiliar to kids today, they evoke childhood memories for adults.
A warm pancake paired with a cool drink, shared with good company, truly embodies the essence of a vacation.
The reasonable prices for food were also a bonus.
What left the strongest impression on me was not the number of programs or the scale of the event but the people.
Some sang on stage, others ran booths, made food, experienced activities with kids, browsed the flea market, or simply sat and chatted with neighbors.
All these individuals came together to create a festival.
Thus, the Charming Village Vacation is not just a summer festival but a time to showcase the joys of our village.
This festival was lively, with various performances enhancing the atmosphere.
From taekwondo demonstrations to puppet shows and impromptu singing contests, the stage was filled with excitement.

It was a stage where enjoyment came from togetherness rather than perfection.
Nowadays, we often think vacations require traveling far away.
But after experiencing the Charming Village Vacation, my perspective shifted.
You don’t have to go far.
You can laugh with good people, experience activities with kids, enjoy performances, eat delicious food, take photos, and watch the night unfold right in your neighborhood.
That alone can be a wonderful vacation.
The name ‘Charming Village Vacation’ is fitting.
It represents the most delightful holiday in Jeongmi-myeon.
From the perspective of the citizen promotion team covering the event, a well-organized festival is not just defined by its programs.
It should also reflect ‘why this festival was created’.
This year’s edition showcased that reason: a time for residents to laugh together, for children to cherish good memories of their village, to meet local produce and people, and for generations to connect.
It was a time to feel, ‘Our neighborhood is wonderful’.
That spirit was present throughout the festival.
This event doesn’t seem like it will end with just the second edition.
I’m already looking forward to how it will evolve next year and what stories the residents will share.
A summer night well enjoyed in Jeongmi-myeon, a charming vacation without needing to travel far, and a day made happier by sharing it with others.
