There are certain flavors that linger in your mind after dining out.
During my recent visit to Jincheon, the seasoning of the grilled duck stood out to me.
I enjoyed this dish at Gwanghye-won Duck Restaurant, where the main course paired perfectly with the side dishes, making the entire meal memorable.
Gwanghye-won Duck Restaurant is a specialty duck cuisine establishment located in Jincheon's Gwanghye-won-myeon.
The front of the building features a spacious yard and parking area, surrounded by well-maintained landscaping.
As I walked past the entrance sign, I was greeted by the relaxed atmosphere typical of garden-style restaurants.
Inside, there are tables that can accommodate several guests, as well as a separate area for larger groups, making it a great spot for family meals or gatherings.
The photographs, autographs, and certificates displayed on the walls added an enjoyable element to exploring the restaurant.
On this day, I ordered a whole grilled duck.
The wide grill was filled with seasoned duck meat, chives, onions, and garlic.
The seasoning was well absorbed into the meat, creating a flavor profile that was both spicy and savory, making it one of the most memorable grilled ducks I've tasted.
The meat was moist and tender, with little to no toughness, which kept me reaching for more.
Rather than just a strong seasoning taste, the combination of meat and vegetables made for a delightful experience as I savored each bite.
Personally, the most impressive combination was the grilled duck with cabbage and mustard sauce.
I placed the finely sliced cabbage on top of the duck and tasted them together.
The crispiness of the cabbage and the zesty mustard sauce complemented the rich seasoning beautifully.
This created a different flavor experience compared to eating the meat alone, making it enjoyable to alternate between the two.
On this day, the combination of cabbage and mustard sauce particularly stood out to me, changing the overall feel of the meal.
Gwanghye-won Duck Restaurant has also been recognized as an award-winning establishment in Jincheon's local food competition.
According to official information, they won a gold medal in 2011 for their ginseng grilled duck.
The dongchimi (radish water kimchi) served between bites of grilled duck was refreshing and clean.
After enjoying the spicy meat, a spoonful of the broth really cleansed my palate.
The fresh kimchi was also crunchy and flavorful, making it a perfect accompaniment to the meat.
Surprisingly, one of the most memorable side dishes was the crispy fried eggplant.
The eggplant maintained its crunchy texture, adding to the enjoyment of the meal.
In addition to grilled duck, they also offer other dishes like baeksuk (white boiled chicken) and samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup).
If you plan to enjoy baeksuk or a group meal, it’s advisable to call ahead to confirm the menu and availability.
