Autumn Hiking Recommendation!

Guksabong Trail on Mount Wora

As autumn deepens, the vibrant colors of the season become more pronounced. Walking along the refreshing breeze, one often feels the urge to escape and climb the mountain paths. Today, I would like to introduce the hiking trail to Guksabong (471m above sea level), one of the two peaks of Mount Wora, a renowned mountain in Jinju.

While many prefer to start from Kumhoji, I chose a special round trip starting from Woljeong Reservoir, allowing for a tranquil experience of autumn's essence. Let’s take a break from our busy lives and enjoy the leisurely pace that autumn offers.

Guksabong Hiking Trail

Route: Jinju in the Forest of Mount Wora Parking Lot 1 - Woljeong Reservoir - Guksabong Summit - Jilmaejae - Return to the starting point

Total Distance / Duration: Approximately 5.5Km to 6Km / About 2.5 to 3 hours (including breaks)

Difficulty: Beginner to Intermediate

Upon arriving at the starting point, the vibrant autumn colors of the American-style pine trees greet hikers. The expansive view of Mount Wora under the clear autumn sky heightens the anticipation of the hike.

As you pass the parking lot and stroll through the flower garden of Jinju in the Forest of Mount Wora, the calm waters of Woljeong Reservoir come into view. The swaying reeds and the golden rice fields on the opposite side create a picturesque scene, immersing you in autumn's charm even before reaching the trailhead of Guksabong.

Entering the trailhead, the actual hike begins. This route has a gentle slope and well-maintained dirt paths, making it easy to ascend without straining your feet.

As you step on the crunching leaves and discover autumn wildflowers along the way, small joys arise. Walking along the forest path, the transmission tower of Janggundae, another peak of Mount Wora, catches your eye.

Along the way, you'll encounter stone piles that embody someone's wishes. Taking a moment to add a small stone while making a wish adds to the hiking experience.

As you get closer to the summit, glimpses of the scenery below begin to appear through the dense trees. The view of Gyeongnam Science High School, peaceful rural fields, and the Jinju Natural Recreation Forest in Mount Wora offers a breath of fresh air.

Passing by a majestic pine tree with gracefully drooping branches, a refreshing mountain breeze cools you down as you finally reach the summit at 471m above sea level!

At the summit, a large stone pile and the open landscape welcome hikers. From this vantage point, the view of Jinju city and the winding Namgang River brings a sense of accomplishment, overshadowing the struggles faced during the ascent. This breathtaking scenery makes it a highly recommended autumn hiking spot.

After enjoying the panoramic view from the summit, I descended towards Jilmaejae, returning to the Jinju in the Forest of Mount Wora Parking Lot 1, concluding the autumn hike.

The route starting from Woljeong Reservoir is less crowded, making it an ideal path to quietly savor the essence of the autumn mountains. Before autumn passes, I highly recommend embarking on a hike to Guksabong on Mount Wora in Jinju. Enjoy the beauty of autumn!
