The season of harvest is here in autumn.
In the rice paddies, the rice is ripening, and in the fields, fruits like pears and apples, chestnuts, sweet potatoes, persimmons, and jujubes are maturing.
Warm rice completes our meals, and it has been a staple for many generations, enjoyed as a winter snack by the warm floor.
In the first holiday of October, there was a festival celebrating this harvest season in Godeam, Dangjin City.
It was the Dangjin Haenaru Sweet Potato Promotion Event.
Dangjin, bordered by the sea and inland, boasts fertile land with many local specialties.
The name Haenaru, meaning a ferry where the sun rises and sets, represents the joint brand of Dangjin's agricultural specialties.
Haenaru rice, pears, and sweet potatoes are known for their strict quality control.
Haenaru sweet potatoes are harvested from the mineral-rich yellow soil of the West Sea, characterized by their high sweetness and firm, fluffy texture.
On October 3rd, the promotion event allowed visitors to taste, experience, and purchase these delightful sweet potatoes.
Free tastings guaranteed the quality of the sweet potatoes, with roasted sweet potatoes available throughout the venue.
The tasting event featured roasted and steamed sweet potatoes, as well as sweet potato rice cakes.
Award-winning sweet potatoes from the Dangjin Hopung Competition were displayed, along with sales booths from local farms.
Once tasted, purchasing was inevitable.
Other agricultural products under the Haenaru brand were also introduced, including hot peppers, sweet potatoes, potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, apples, pears, and rice.
Each product represents the unique characteristics of Dangjin's agriculture.
The festival featured an abundance of programs for children, including sweet potato harvesting experiences, sweet potato keychain making, and crafting pots with dough.
The event was well-organized, allowing participants to enjoy various activities without overcrowding.
The outdoor area of the Dangjin Sports Complex hosted a large stage with performances and events from early morning until late at night.
The highlight of the festival was the direct sales of sweet potatoes from local farms.
Each booth sold sweet potatoes at fixed prices, with boxes priced at 15,000 won for 5kg and 25,000 won for 10kg.
The festival promoted the taste of yellow sweet potatoes and provided a market for local farmers, ensuring a hearty supply for the long winter.
If you missed the promotion event, you can still purchase them at the Dangjin Local Food Direct Store and online shopping mall.
