Every year, the third Saturday of September is designated as Youth Day.
This legal commemorative day was established to raise awareness about the importance of guaranteeing youth rights and promoting youth development.
In mid-September, all districts in Ulsan hold youth festivals simultaneously.
Notably, the youth festival in Uljin County is impressive as it is planned and organized by the youth themselves.
Introducing the "Youth It’s So FESTA" held in Uljin County.
The festival, organized by the Uljin Cultural Foundation, took place on the 12th at the Mulnaeum Park area in Beomseo-eup.
This year's "Youth It’s So FESTA" is particularly special as it is a 'participatory festival' created by the youth themselves.
In April, the Uljin Cultural Foundation selected five members for the youth planning group 'Uljin It’s So PD' to develop the festival's vision.
In July, they recruited youth teams called 'Together It’s So Players' through an open call, enriching the festival with various attractions and activities.
The festival featured numerous performances by young musicians.
Local musicians from Ulsan, selected through the Together It’s So Players program, shared the stage with invited guests, showcasing a delightful array of music and performances across genres like band, classical, ukulele, electronic violin, hip-hop, cheerleading, and acoustic.
The grand finale included the unveiling of the theme song 'It's So,' created collaboratively by Uljin It’s So PD and local youth.
No festival is complete without booths, which were filled by the selected Together It’s So Players.
Handmade crafts, cozy knitted items, and unique local café menus were featured in the market.
Various experiential programs, including craft classes, discussions, color therapy, and percussion experiences, provided a wide range of options.
Additionally, the Uljin It’s So PD showcased the process of preparing for the festival through photos, videos, and honest stories from the youth in a participatory exhibition format.
Visitors could leave messages in a guestbook, contributing to the exhibition.
There were also moments during the performances where youth shared their thoughts and concerns on stage.
As this festival was planned and executed by local youth, the authenticity and passion felt on-site were particularly special.
We hope this youth-led cultural festival, which has taken its first steps, will grow to become a prominent platform for youth culture in Uljin.
