The Seodong Festival, representing Iksan, kicked off on May 1 at the Central Sports Park. The festival will run for three days until May 3, 2026. This year, we eagerly anticipate the stories it will share, focusing on the programs held on the first day.
This year's festival theme is '2026 Love Blossoms Summer Festa.' The festival is hosted at Central Sports Park and Sinheung Park, featuring various programs across ten spaces at Central Sports Park and Sinheung Park.
Among the main event spaces, the central sports field hosts the main stage, where significant programs, including the opening and closing ceremonies, take place. Surrounding the main stage are promotional booths, experience zones, jewelry sales booths, Iksan Youth Street, and brand experience zones. The outskirts of the sports field include a comprehensive information center and the Cheonnyeon-ae Mission Road, along with a fringe stage for small music concerts.
At Sinheung Park, visitors can enjoy busking performances and stroll along a starlit walking path.
On the first day, a ceremonial event honoring the festival's main character, King Mu, took place at the main stage in the morning. Various music performances began at the fringe stage beside the fountain and the busking stage at Sinheung Park.
The Cheonnyeon-ae Mission Road features three courses: Baekje Day Trip Course, Baekje Exploration Course, and Seodong-Seonhwa Course, with experiential activities at each course.
In the afternoon, the Seodong Selection Contest was held on the main stage. Nine finalists, chosen from applicants across the country, showcased their talents. The winners included Lim Dong-geon from Jeonju taking first place, followed by Seo Hye-won from Iksan in second, and Jang Hyung-wook from Namyangju in third.
From 5 PM, the Great Summer Parade commenced, starting from Oyang Park and moving to Central Sports Park, led by a military band and featuring various groups to convey the festival's significance to citizens and tourists.
The Seodong Festival emphasizes remembering history and respecting traditional culture, beautifully showcased through the King Mu procession and folk music and dance parades. The parade was vibrant, filled with young participants and youth. During the parade, two flash mobs combined music and dance, uniting participants and spectators.
The theme of the 2026 Seodong Festival revolves around the love story of Prince Seodong and Princess Seonhwa, engaging youth and adolescents in the festivities.
A couple participating in the parade added a romantic touch with a proposal event, enhancing the festival's charm. The Great Summer Parade concluded in front of the main stage at Central Sports Park, where some participants performed a flash mob to wrap up the event.
After the parade, there was about an hour before the opening ceremony. During this time, guitarist Kim Na-rin, known for her funky style, performed at the fringe stage, attracting a large audience.
As darkness fell at 7 PM, the opening ceremony of the Seodong Festival began at the main stage. The smooth hosting made the ceremony progress swiftly, culminating in the official declaration of the festival's three-day start with fireworks.
The opening performance followed, featuring the city’s arts troupe, which crafted a narrative themed around the dreams of Baekje, taking the audience on a time-traveling journey.
Immediately after the opening performance, a celebratory concert commenced, starting with Lee Bo-ram from the girl group SeeYa, who energized the crowd with five songs, including 'Love Greeting.'
The second act featured Lee Jin-seong from the male duo Monday Kiz, showcasing his vocal prowess with songs like 'Bye Bye Bye' and 'Autumn Greetings.'
Fireworks lit up the night sky during the concert, adding to the festive atmosphere. The last performance was by the rock band Dickpunks, who kept the joyous vibe alive until the end.
With various mini amusement rides operating until the end of the concert, the Seodong Extreme Zone catered to children, teenagers, and young adults, showcasing a revitalized festival.
