As the unusually long heatwave recedes and a cool breeze begins to blow, one of the first things that comes to mind is a light stroll. Today, I would like to introduce the scenic walking trail around Ipgok National Park, a representative relaxation spot in Hamann.
■ Recommended Trail Course: Parking Lot - Entrance to Ipgok Forest Bathing Area - Waterside Trail - Ipgok Suspension Bridge - Hongdanjeong Pavilion - Korean Peninsula Geographical Observation Deck - Moving Boat Dock - Return to Starting Point
■ Duration: Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes (a leisurely stroll is recommended)
After comfortably parking at the Ipgok National Park parking lot, you’ll see the entrance to the ‘Ipgok Forest Bathing Area’ at the beginning of the trail. This is the starting point of the walking path that blends forest and lake, where you can feel the refreshing air from the dense trees right from the entrance.
As you walk along the path, the serene view of Ipgok Reservoir unfolds before your eyes. You can see the waterside deck path across the reservoir, the mountain slopes, and even the suspension bridge in the distance, allowing you to visualize your walking route along the trail.
Following the waterside path, you will find a deck staircase leading into the forest. This course is recommended for those who want to enjoy the fresh air of the green forest while walking. It connects back to the main trail after passing through the woods.
The trail around Ipgok National Park has various benches and tables well-placed, making it a perfect resting spot where you can take breaks at your own pace.
Even now, many maple trees are still green, but this place is known for its stunning autumn foliage when the leaves turn vibrant colors. The autumn scenery of Ipgok National Park is so beautiful that tour buses come from all over the country.
The reason anyone can walk the trail at Ipgok National Park without feeling burdened is due to the well-maintained deck paths. It is a healing road where you can walk while gazing at the calm reservoir.
As you descend to the waterside through the forest path, you will encounter the ‘Ipgok Suspension Bridge,’ the landmark of Ipgok National Park. This bridge, with its charming orange towers, offers a subtle sway as you walk, providing a bit of fun. Don’t forget to take a photo with the symmetrical bridge in the background from the center of the bridge.
Climbing the stairs to the right of the suspension bridge leads you to the charming pavilion, ‘Hongdanjeong.’ Here, you can enjoy views of the reservoir and the mountains in front. The panoramic view of Ipgok National Park spreads out beautifully, lifting your spirits just by looking at it.
As you walk towards the end of the Ipgok Reservoir, you will find a sign for the Korean Peninsula Geographical Observation Deck. Curious about the view, I decided to climb up a bit further.
After walking about 300 meters, I was amazed by the beautiful scenery. The water flow of the Ipgok Reservoir resembles the shape of the Korean Peninsula, which was quite fascinating.
Now, as you return, a flat wooden deck path runs alongside the reservoir, making it an even more attractive trail filled with various trees that change with the seasons.
At the end of the trail, crossing the colorful Moving Boat Dock and the rainbow-colored railing bridge marks the conclusion of today’s healing walking course.
How did you feel exploring the walking trail of Ipgok National Park with me? This place is perfect for a stroll at any time of the day—morning, noon, or night! I hope you take a moment to relax while walking along the gentle waves of Ipgok, which offers different charms each season.
