Hello! Today, I visited the newly renovated Ulsan Buk-gu Central Library.
The library offers various spaces that cater to everyone from young children to adults.
In particular, the children's section has a separate area for infants, a nursing room, and changing tables, making it convenient for parents visiting with their kids.
Originally opened in 2008, the library recently underwent remodeling due to aging facilities and has reopened with a fresh look. Let me introduce the changes one by one!
Location and Usage Information
Address: 9, Dubugok 1-gil, Buk-gu, Ulsan
Closed on: Every Monday
Collection: 116,028 books
One aspect I particularly liked was that the children's section is open until 8 PM on weekdays. This allows parents who find it difficult to go out during the day to visit after work or in the evening.
Events for the Reopening Celebration
The library will host various events from November 3rd to 8th to celebrate its reopening. Activities will include readings, lectures, performances, and hands-on experiences.
Main Event Schedule
November 3, 2026 (Thu) 14:00 - Reopening Ceremony
November 3, 2026 (Thu) 15:00 - Humanities Lecture by Jang Hyun-jung: 'Why Books Matter Again in the AI Era'
November 7, 2026 (Sat) 15:00 - Lecture by Authors Kim Deok-jin and Lim Han-na: 'Living as Parents in the AI Era'
November 8, 2026 (Sun) 15:00 - Magic Balloon Show
Additionally, there will be stamp tours, original artwork exhibitions, a transcription corner, a grace period for overdue books, and opportunities to leave feedback about the library.
For more details and registration for each event, please check the Buk-gu Library website.
Exhibition of Original Artwork by Lee Eok-bae
The library features an exhibition of original artwork from Lee Eok-bae's picture book 'Onu-i.' If you enjoy picture books, this is an exhibition you shouldn't miss!
Grace Period for Overdue Books
Sometimes, we forget to return books on time. The reopening event includes a welcome announcement about a grace period for overdue books. If you return all overdue items, your borrowing privileges will be reinstated.
However, please note that this applies only to overdue books from the Buk-gu Central Library, not from other libraries.
Free Access to Newspapers and Magazines
The library provides a space where you can read newspapers and various magazines for free, which is great when you want to browse without buying.
Children's Section on the First Floor
The children's section is located on the first floor and is designed for children to freely choose and read books. There is also a separate area for infants, which is a shoe-free space where young children can comfortably sit and move around.
Inside the infant area, there are changing tables and a nursing room, making it accessible for parents with babies.
Children's Restroom
The children's restroom is designed for kids, with lower sinks and toilets that are more suitable for their height. This makes it convenient for children who are potty training or learning to use the restroom independently.
Second Floor: A Café-like Reading Area
The second floor features a comprehensive reading room that has a relaxed and stylish atmosphere, unlike the typical rigid library environment.
Third Floor: Book Café and Rooftop Garden
The third floor includes a book café, where you can find a microwave for quick meals. I personally loved the rooftop garden, where you can enjoy fresh air after studying indoors.
The Ulsan Buk-gu Central Library is not just a place to borrow books; it is a multifaceted cultural space for everyone, from children to adults. With thoughtful facilities for parents and kids, this library is definitely worth a visit. Enjoy a peaceful time with a book at the newly renovated Ulsan Buk-gu Central Library!
