Experience the magic of the Iksan Night Festival, perfect for the whole family during the Chuseok holiday!

As the weather cools, the festival brings a romantic autumn atmosphere. The Iksan Mireuksaji site, established during the reign of King Mu of Baekje over 1,400 years ago, is the largest remaining temple site from that era. The Mireuksaji Stone Pagoda, standing majestically with the lotus pond, is a beloved landmark in Jeonbuk.
Arriving at the festival site around sunset (6:30 PM - 7:00 PM), I found the parking relatively easy on weekdays, but public transport is recommended on weekends due to larger crowds. Shuttle buses operate from Iksan Station to Mireuksaji on Saturdays and Sundays for convenience.
Despite being a weekday evening, the pleasant weather attracted families, couples, and friends eager to enjoy the stunning media art. The atmosphere was relaxed and romantic, with many people waiting on the expansive lawn, enjoying the cool autumn breeze.
The media art event, themed "The Time of the Royal Road: The Awakening of the Illuminated Royal Road," allowed visitors to experience a journey through past, present, and future.
Before the main program, I explored the exhibits of "The Light of the Royal Road" and "The Light of the Future." The mesmerizing light installations, especially the floating "Dreaming Lotus Pond" and the "Light of the Royal Road" inspired by dragons, enhanced the enchanting ambiance.
Interactive installations like "Creating My Royal Road" invited guests to contribute their wishes, adding to the collective experience. This festival is a wonderful opportunity for families to bond together.
Other captivating installations included "Mireuk's Stone," "Moonlight Blossoms," and "A Thousand Years of Blooming," ensuring there was never a dull moment while enjoying the night views of Mireuksaji.
The media facade shows run four times daily at 7:30 PM, 8:00 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:00 PM. The main program, featuring the "Light of Protection," showcased the grand return of the Mireuksaji wooden pagoda, captivating audiences with its scale and stunning visuals.
Following the wooden pagoda's return, the light shows continued, revealing the beauty of Mireuksaji's East and West pagodas, immersing visitors in the charm of Baekje.
As the 20-minute media facade performance concluded, gentle lights illuminated the stone pagoda, allowing for memorable photos against the beautiful backdrop of Baekje's night sky.
The National Heritage Media Art event at Iksan Mireuksaji runs every night until September 27. On weekends, additional attractions like flea markets, food zones, and busking enhance the experience.
