Sharpening dull kitchen knives, repotting old plants, and fixing broken bicycles are tasks that often seem like minor inconveniences but can be quite bothersome to resolve.
A new administrative service has come to help residents address these everyday inconveniences while also promoting health.
In September, the '2026 Best Administrative Services Day' was held at Jongha Innovation Square in Sinjeong 2-dong, Ulsan.
The Ulsan Nam-gu district operates this event across 14 neighborhoods to communicate with residents.
This initiative goes beyond the traditional approach of visiting administrative offices to resolve complaints; it emphasizes on-site administrative services directly in the community.
During the event, 20 booths were set up across five categories, including resident convenience, health management, and specialized local projects, providing a variety of services to attendees.
Notably, services closely related to residents' daily lives were offered, including health consultations, bicycle and small appliance repairs, repotting plants, knife sharpening, and information on carbon neutrality and recycling.
Residents were particularly drawn to the plant repotting service, where old pots were filled with fresh soil and plants, bringing new life and vitality.
The knife sharpening service also garnered significant interest, with many residents taking part. Up to three kitchen knives could be sharpened, restoring their functionality.
The bicycle repair booth attracted many visitors as well, with repair costs supported up to 10,000 KRW, while any excess was the responsibility of the user.
Promoting carbon neutrality and recycling was another focus of the event, demonstrating practical ways to protect the environment in everyday life by reducing waste and extending the lifespan of usable items.
Small appliance repairs and cleaning services for eyeglasses and jewelry were also available, allowing residents to restore items that were too valuable to throw away but too tedious to repair.
The 'Creating Sharing Angels' experience and a sharing booth for unused items were popular, as residents exchanged clothing and household goods, reflecting on the significance of resource circulation and sharing.
Unique programs showcasing the character of Sinjeong 2-dong added energy to the event, including a book fair where used books were sold for 1,000 KRW each, along with a clothing bazaar, enhancing the event's meaning.
The Saemaul Geumgo provided free freshly popped rice snacks and drinks, evoking fond childhood memories and creating a warm atmosphere at the venue.
Residents also enjoyed a talent donation session where they painted their unique designs on dyed scarves, creating one-of-a-kind pieces.
Booths promoting youth markets and small businesses captured attention, and the Nam-gu Cultural Center offered various experiences and attractions.
Numerous health programs were available for residents, including consultations for health issues, dementia, oral health, and prevention of hypertension and diabetes, allowing attendees to address their health concerns.
Notably, groups of kindergarten children participated in health consultations and activities, providing an opportunity to reassess their health.
Programs focusing on both physical and mental health, such as sports taping experiences and stress assessments, emphasized the importance of community-centered administrative services.
The event transformed Jongha Innovation Square into a comprehensive administrative service hub, where residents could easily access the services they needed.
The 'Best Administrative Services Day' signifies the administration's commitment to directly engaging with residents, listening to their concerns, and finding solutions together.
This day was a testament to the small-scale yet impactful administrative efforts that enhance the lives of citizens.
