One of Ulsan's representative festivals is the Ulsan Whale Festival! This year marks the 30th edition, featuring a variety of events in the Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Special Zone.

I visited on the first day of the festival, Thursday, October 15th.

As I explored the festival grounds, I found many enjoyable activities suitable for children. Additionally, there were various programs that adults could participate in with interest.

Let me share my experiences from the first day of the Ulsan Whale Festival!

The 30th Ulsan Whale Festival took place from Thursday, October 15th to Sunday, October 18th.

During the festival, convenient parking was available at Mipo Beach, and it was free of charge. To avoid wasting time finding a parking spot, it’s advisable to check the designated parking areas in advance.

Upon entering the festival, the first place to visit is the festival's information center. With various experience booths, performances, and food available, it can be overwhelming to decide where to start. At the information center, you can grab a pamphlet that provides an overview of the events and programs.

Don't forget to check the last page of the pamphlet for the stamp tour information. You could participate in a mission to collect six stamps by visiting designated locations throughout the festival. After completing the stamp tour, you could receive salt as a gift, making it a rewarding experience.

Now, let’s dive into the various experience booths! The festival offered a range of programs, from whale-themed crafts to unique activities not easily found in daily life.

One booth that caught my eye was 'Create Your Own Goods with Binggrae Whale!' where you could customize your items. There was also a postcard writing experience in collaboration with the Nam Ulsan Post Office. Writing a postcard felt refreshing, especially in this digital age.

The Ulsan Barrier-Free Tourism Awareness booth featured braille experiences and mission programs. Since opportunities to engage with braille are rare, this experience helped foster understanding of its importance for everyone, regardless of ability.

Another exciting spot was the Ulsan HD FC booth, where a game involved matching a timer to the exact second of a game day. It was more challenging than expected, but it was a lot of fun!

I also visited the 'Life Skills with Salt' experience booth. On the first day of the festival, we could participate in a rainbow salt jar-making activity. It was fascinating to see how a familiar material like salt could be transformed into a beautiful piece of art.

Each day of the festival featured different programs, so even if you visit just once, there are plenty of activities to enjoy. There were also health experience booths and CPR training, which were particularly popular among the elderly, adding meaningful safety education to the festival.

As I wandered through the festival, I encountered a photo spot with a welcoming character, Jangsaeng. It was a great opportunity to take memorable photos with family using various props.

After exploring the promotional booths and experience programs, I headed to the whale experience area, where we could make masks and whale tails. If you visit the festival, be sure to check out the experience area for a variety of engaging programs.

In the family experience zone, five games prepared by Rock Planning were available for a small fee. It was a hit for families as both kids and adults enjoyed games like throwing food into a whale's mouth and a 'Find the Whale' activity.

One of the special spots at the festival was the Wish Whale, where visitors could write down their wishes. Many people were seen writing their hopes from the very first day.

As I explored, I soon became hungry. The Whale Dining area offered a variety of dishes, from quick snacks to hearty meals like soups and noodles. You could also find festival favorites like chicken and fried snacks, perfect for a quick bite.

At the Shrimp Stage, a game was held where participants guessed the titles of songs. The familiarity of the songs made it easy to join in, and the added thrill of prizes made it even more exciting.

There was also a flea market near the Whale Ecology Experience Center, showcasing various handmade items and nostalgic stationery that was enjoyable to browse.

The festival featured many food trucks and a chicken and beer zone, allowing visitors to choose meals according to their preferences. It would be great to enjoy a cold beer with friends while savoring some chicken!

On the stage, rehearsals were underway with senior performers preparing for their show. The Ulsan Whale Festival had a rich lineup of performances planned from the opening ceremony to the final day.

This concludes my account of the first day at the 2026 Ulsan Whale Festival. It was a festival filled with activities ranging from crafts and health experiences to games, flea markets, food, and performances. It was impressive to see a festival designed for everyone, allowing seniors to participate in health experiences and citizens to enjoy diverse programs.

Unfortunately, this year's festival concluded on Sunday, October 18th. If you missed it, consider looking forward to next year's Ulsan Whale Festival!
