If you're planning a hike or drive to Bukhansan, one of the main concerns is where to eat.
Before hiking, you need a hearty meal, and after returning, a proper Korean meal is a must.
Parking convenience is a bonus!
For those in search of a great dining spot, I recommend Mansukjang's main branch.
Our family has been visiting this place for years whenever we come to Bukhansan Valley.
Upon our recent visit, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had been completely remodeled and was exceptionally clean.
What amazed me even more was that not only did the atmosphere improve, but the food seemed even tastier!
With friendly service and available parking, we enjoyed a delightful meal featuring bossam, grilled mackerel, doenjang jjigae, and dolsotbap.
This truly is a gem of a restaurant in Bukhansan.
1. A Family Favorite Restaurant in Bukhansan
For our family, Mansukjang's main branch isn't a new discovery.
It has been a natural stop whenever we visited Bukhansan Valley.
So, on this trip, as we approached Bukhansan, we simply said, "Let's go to Mansukjang!" without any hesitation.
In the past, we enjoyed the valley together, often bringing the kids during summer, but now, entry into the valley is no longer allowed.
If you have memories of visiting, it's good to keep this in mind.
However, the charm of enjoying a delicious Korean meal at Mansukjang remains unchanged.
If you're planning a hike at Bukhansan, this restaurant is a great option for your meal.
2. A Fresh Look at Mansukjang's Main Branch
The most surprising aspect of my recent visit was the improved atmosphere.
The entire Mansukjang main branch has been remodeled, making it much cleaner and more comfortable.
For someone like me who has visited before, this was quite a significant change.
While maintaining the charm of a long-standing popular restaurant, the space feels much tidier, making it suitable for dining with parents or kids.
Moreover, the staff provided friendly service, setting a positive tone even before our meal began.
A great restaurant isn't just about tasty food; convenience in parking, space, and service also matter, and Mansukjang excels in all these areas.
3. Menu Highlights: Bossam and More!
This time, we ordered the bossam ssambap set.
From the moment the dishes were served, I felt we made the right choice.
Not only did we get bossam, but also fresh wraps, doenjang jjigae, dolsotbap, and various side dishes.
It truly felt like a complete Korean meal.
The fresh wraps served were particularly impressive.
With vibrant colors and freshness, wrapping a piece of bossam with sides made for a delightful experience.
The mackerel was another unexpected highlight, perfectly grilled to achieve a crispy exterior while remaining moist inside.
The soy sauce marinated crab added a savory depth to the meal.
It’s easy to see why this restaurant has been loved for so long.
4. The Must-Try Doenjang Jjigae!
While the bossam and mackerel were delicious, my personal MVP of the day was the doenjang jjigae.
The rich flavor of the fermented soybean paste was perfectly infused into the broth, not overly salty or spicy, making it addictive.
I found myself going back for more, enjoying it with every bite of bossam and mackerel.
5. Perfect Ending with Dolsotbap
The rice served is not just plain rice but dolsotbap.
Upon opening the lid, I was greeted with shiny, sticky rice.
After serving some rice, I added water to the pot to make nurungji.
While the nurungji was slightly undercooked that day, I didn’t give up and waited a bit longer to enjoy it properly.
With a spoonful of crispy nurungji, I felt warm and satisfied.
This meal at Mansukjang made me understand why it leaves you feeling so full.
6. Important Tips for Visiting Mansukjang
For those who have enjoyed the valley in the past, you might assume you can still access it.
Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
So, avoid making the mistake of thinking you can combine water play in the valley with your meal.
Instead, plan to enjoy a meal at Mansukjang along with your hike or drive in Bukhansan.
Parking availability is also convenient for families driving.
After a hike, enjoying a bossam ssambap set will surely satisfy your hunger.
Mansukjang is a place I would definitely revisit when I go to Bukhansan again.
