After a long closure, the Sejong Gungang Arboretum has finally reopened its doors.
The sudden news of its temporary closure was disappointing not only for the citizens of Sejong but for many others as well.
As someone who has cherished memories walking through the four seasons with my family there, I felt quite saddened upon hearing the news.
Upon learning of the reopening, I eagerly awaited the perfect moment to enjoy the forest, and now, as the beloved Metasequoia path is painted in red, I have stepped into autumn.
Here, I share the warm sensations of the soft earth beneath my feet and the deepening fragrance of the forest, showcasing the autumn landscape of the Gungang Arboretum.
Temporary Free Access to Gungang Arboretum
Period: September 21, 2026 - December 31, 2026
Details: Free admission and parking during this period
Available areas: Arboretum walking trails, accessible paths, Metasequoia path, greenhouse (dome-shaped)
Unavailable areas: Indoor facilities (museum, zoo, snack bar, café, etc.), camping area, forest houses, etc.
Gungang Arboretum Cultural Festival
On November 7, 2026, at 2 PM, the Gungang Arboretum will host a 'Cultural Festival in the Forest' suitable for the whole family.
This event allows participants to choose their preferred programs according to personal schedules and preferences.
1 PM | Pre-event: 'Creating a Succulent Citizen Garden' (Succulent Plant Garden) & various experience booths
2 PM | Main event: 'Cultural Festival in the Forest' concert to enhance the romance of the autumn forest.
You can participate exclusively in the 'Creating a Succulent Citizen Garden' or leisurely explore the arboretum before joining the 'Cultural Festival in the Forest' at 2 PM.
Popular experience programs may require waiting or could be fully booked, so pre-registration is recommended to enjoy a more relaxed visit.
This weekend, take the opportunity to stroll along the red Metasequoia path and enjoy the rich cultural events. I recommend making a reservation for your outing.
On October 29, I visited the arboretum, where a gentle autumn rain was falling. Despite it being a rainy weekday afternoon, visitors continued to arrive, reflecting the anticipation and popularity of the reopened arboretum.
The tranquil and picturesque autumn forest had a different charm, and the fresh air was invigorating with every step.
After about a 10-minute walk along the accessible path, I reached 'Changyeonjeong,' a must-see spot in the arboretum. From the pavilion, the flowing waters of the Geumgang River and the colorful autumn foliage create a panoramic view.
Although the 'Forest Library' previously located on the first floor of Changyeonjeong is currently closed for renovations, the scenery is still breathtaking.
The autumn landscape, while not fully transformed, is gradually changing with hints of red. The red arch bridge, known as 'Bultigyo,' beautifully reflects in the Geumgang River, offering a stunning view.
The Metasequoia path is approximately 400 meters long, making it a comfortable walk for all ages. The towering Metasequoia trees create a magnificent tunnel, providing a unique experience.
During my visit, the path was well-maintained and soft underfoot, making it a pleasure to walk. For those who are not yet comfortable walking barefoot, a nearby palm mat allows for enjoying the autumn scenery.
As the entrance to the barefoot path has a foot wash station, bringing a towel and some water is advisable.
As autumn deepens, the Gungang Arboretum offers a warm embrace from nature. If you're considering where to go this first weekend of November, I invite you to enjoy the Cultural Festival and the beauty of the season at the Gungang Arboretum.
