The Blooming Beauty of NamMiruksa Temple in April
In April, when the spring energy is in full swing, NamMiruksa Temple in Gangjin, Jeollanam-do transforms into a true 'sea of flowers.' At this time every year, the pink Western Azaleas and vibrant red Rhododendrons blanket the entire temple, creating a stunning spectacle that attracts visitors from all over the country.
This year, the first Western Azalea Festival was held successfully, garnering even more attention. Visitors can enjoy the exotic architecture and the overwhelming beauty of the flowers, making it a perfect destination for families with children or parents.
The highlight of a trip to NamMiruksa in April is undoubtedly the Western Azalea Tunnel. The flowers, which are a much deeper pink than regular cherry blossoms, create a mystical atmosphere, as if one has stepped into a fairy tale. The peak bloom typically occurs between April 15 and 20.
If you want to capture the perfect photo, visiting between 8 AM and 10 AM is highly recommended. The sunlight filtering through the dew-laden petals creates dreamy images, and you'll be able to enjoy a leisurely stroll away from the crowds.
Another highlight of the temple is the red wave created by around 10 million Rhododendron trees. When they bloom, the entire temple area ignites in a fiery red hue. During the overlapping bloom period of the Western Azaleas and Rhododendrons, visitors can witness a fantastic harmony of pink and red.
As you pass through the temple gate towards the main hall, you'll be greeted by beautifully tended Rhododendron hedges. Walking along the maze-like flower paths can wash away the stress of daily life, making it a perfect healing course.

The pond within the temple and the 13-story stone pagoda nearby are also popular spots for photographers. The fact that admission and parking are free, yet the gardens are so well-maintained, adds to the charm of NamMiruksa.
