"Half Price Travel to Dangkkeut Haenam Attracts Over 14,000 Participants, Surpassing 2 Billion Won in Local Consumption"

- The 'Half Price Travel to Dangkkeut Haenam' initiative successfully concluded, achieving results in attracting tourists and revitalizing the local economy -

(The Haenam Cultural Tourism Foundation announced the successful conclusion of the 'Half Price Travel to Dangkkeut Haenam' initiative, which was promoted as part of the '2026 Local Love Vacation Support Project' organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.)

The Local Love Vacation Support Project is aimed at revitalizing tourism in areas with declining populations and recovering the local economy by refunding part of tourists' travel expenses in the form of local gift certificates. The 'Half Price Travel to Dangkkeut Haenam' initiative allowed tourists visiting Haenam to receive refunds of up to 50% for general tourists and up to 70% for young people, based on their travel expenses incurred in the region, thus reducing travel costs and promoting local consumption. Haenam County was selected as a target area for this initiative this year to attract tourists and revitalize the local economy.

The 'Half Price Travel to Dangkkeut Haenam' initiative was conducted in four phases from April 28 to September 14, 2026. As a result, over 6,500 teams and more than 14,000 individuals participated, with local consumption amounting to approximately 2.08 billion won. Additionally, about 1 billion won in Haenam Love gift certificates were used locally, achieving the goal of reducing travel expenses for tourists and promoting local consumption.

In terms of consumption by sector, restaurants accounted for the largest share at approximately 778.5 million won (37.4%), followed by accommodation at about 554.6 million won (26.7%), supermarkets/convenience stores/food and beverages at around 318.8 million won (15.3%), cafes/bakeries at about 158.0 million won (7.6%), and tourist site entrance fees at approximately 127.4 million won (6.1%).

Notably, spending in the restaurant and accommodation sectors constituted 64.1% of total consumption, indicating that tourist visits led to increased patronage of local dining and lodging establishments. Furthermore, consumption occurred in various sectors such as supermarkets, convenience stores, cafes, and tourist sites, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.

Tourists visiting Haenam explored various attractions, including the Haenam Dinosaur Festival, filming locations for the movie 'Hope', and UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Daeheungsa Temple and the Duryeonsan Cable Car, as well as Dangkkeut Village. These attractions highlighted Haenam's natural, historical, and cultural resources as key draws for tourists.

Meanwhile, Haenam County plans to continue the Local Love Vacation Support Project in 2027, with implementation expected around April. Detailed schedules will be confirmed based on the progress of the initiative.

A foundation representative expressed gratitude to tourists who participated in this year's 'Half Price Travel to Dangkkeut Haenam' and contributed to local businesses, stating, "We will do our best to promote Haenam's charm and ensure that tourist visits translate into local consumption through the Local Love Vacation Support Project in 2027."
