Shinan County's New Seaweed Processing Facility Agreement

Hello from Shinan County!
On April 9, we signed a memorandum of understanding with Gamro Seafood Cooperative.
This agreement is part of the project to establish the 2025 Jeonnam Fisheries Production Center (FPC).
We plan to construct a new dry seaweed processing plant worth 15 billion KRW in the area of Aphae-eup.
The facility will feature two production lines, creating a seamless system from production to processing and distribution.
We expect to secure a stable supply of fresh seaweed through contract farming, enhancing the market opportunities for our fishermen.
This initiative aims to address the recurring issues of falling seaweed prices and disposal problems.
Gamro Seafood Cooperative, based in Haenam, Jeonnam, has recorded sales of approximately 23 billion KRW over the past two years, with most of its products exported to the United States.
The company holds various international certifications, including USDA, HACCP, and organic processing certifications, meeting global food safety standards.
We believe this expansion will not only increase the income of seaweed farmers but also contribute positively to job creation and the local economy.
Moving forward, we will establish a system that organically connects production, processing, and export to enhance the value of Shinan seafood in the global market.
Additionally, Shinan County was selected for the 2026 FPC construction project, with an investment of 8 billion KRW.
We are accelerating efforts to become a leading distribution hub for the seaweed industry in Korea.
We appreciate your continued interest and support for the various changes and challenges in Shinan County.
