Recommended Family Trip to Geochang: Susungdae Wood Culture Experience Center and Turtle Rock
After crossing the Susungdae suspension bridge, we visited the Geochang Wood Culture Experience Center located next to the Susungdae auto camping site.
Between the auto camping site and the wood culture experience center, there is a smart library where we could conveniently borrow books.
The interior of the smart library had air conditioning running, making it comfortable to choose books.
The smart library operates 24 hours a day, year-round, and is available for members of the Geochang County Hanmaeum Library or the Book Sharing membership. Each person can borrow up to five books for 14 days, and if the return date is missed, borrowing will be suspended for the number of overdue days.
There were also explanations on how to join the Hanmaeum Library and how to borrow books.
After exploring the smart library, we moved on to the Geochang Wood Culture Experience Center.
At the entrance, there was information about discounts available for cultural and tourist facilities in Geochang County for sister cities.
From August 11 to August 19, 2026, the Geochang World University Theater Festival will also be held at the Susungdae Festival Theater.
The outdoor swimming pool at Susungdae has opened, and I plan to post about it in the next update.
The Geochang Wood Culture Experience Center is located within the Susungdae tourist area and offers various woodworking experiences and exhibitions themed around wood, making it a popular choice for family trips with children.
The center is divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced experience areas. The interior shown in the photo is from the beginner experience area.
The beginner experience area is where children and families can enjoy woodworking experiences, available at 10 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:30 PM.
Information about the programs, material fees, and experience fees for the beginner area was also available. For more details, you can visit the office located in the intermediate experience area, where friendly staff will assist you.
Operating hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM during the summer (March to September) and from 9 AM to 5 PM during the winter (October to February).
It was a great opportunity to learn about different types of wood, the process of making wooden crafts, and the characteristics and uses of wood naturally.
The advanced experience area has the same individual woodworking experience times as the beginner area.
Outside the advanced experience area, there are exhibits of works created by participants.
There is also a space to sit and read or rest, making it a nice spot to enjoy books borrowed from the smart library.
The second floor of the wood culture experience center is currently under construction and was not open for viewing.
When you step out to the second floor of the wood experience center, there is a café called 'Cafe Smile' run by a senior barista, where you can enjoy the surrounding green forest scenery.

Next to the Smile Café is a pavilion called Heungminjeong, offering a beautiful view of the surrounding lush forest.
The beautiful eaves of the traditional hanok and the cool view create a perfect resting spot.
There is also a maze below, making it a recommended family trip spot for children.
A wooden playground for children is also available.
On the way to Turtle Rock, we could also check the performance schedule for the Geochang International Theater Festival, which will take place in the Susungdae area from July 31 to August 9, 2026.
The Geochang International Theater Festival is a representative outdoor theater festival in Korea where you can enjoy performances against the backdrop of the beautiful natural scenery of Susungdae, attracting many tourists every summer.
Turtle Rock, a famous landmark of Susungdae, has a history linked to the original name 'Susongdae' and poems from ancient scholars are inscribed on it.
Susungdae has long been a popular spot for poets and scholars, who used to hold poetry gatherings on the rock situated in the water, enjoying academic and artistic pursuits.
In spring, azaleas bloom, enhancing the beauty of Turtle Rock.
Swimming is prohibited in the fast-flowing valley water below Turtle Rock, so please use the Susungdae water playground for swimming.
If you visit Geochang Susungdae, I recommend enjoying woodworking experiences at the Susungdae Wood Culture Experience Center and exploring the beautiful Turtle Rock. It is a family trip course that satisfies everyone from children to adults.
