I visited three places in Hwaynam-myeon, Boeun, where you can walk while enjoying the view of Daecheong Lake.
These are Jeongmun Park, Namdaemun Park, and Sadam-gil.
You can take photos with the lake as a backdrop and explore the parks and village walking paths.
In the parks, you can see a wide view of Daecheong Lake and the mountains across it.
While walking along Sadam-gil, I observed the lakeside deck path and the water visible through the trees.
Let me introduce the scenery and facilities at each of the three locations in order.
On both sides of the road leading to Jeongmun Park, there were trees.
The sky peeked through the branches, and shadows were cast on the road.
Upon arriving at the park, you can see a sign that reads, 'Hwaynam-myeon Jeongmun Park Parking Lot.'
Beyond the parking area, the lake and mountains were visible.
Tall conifers stood by the water's edge, and Daecheong Lake could also be seen through the surrounding trees.
In October, there were still many green leaves in the park, but some had turned yellow and brown.
Inside the park, there is a pavilion and stairs.
When I visited, grass cutting was in progress, so I regretted not being able to capture the Daecheong Lake scenery from the pavilion.
Instead, I explored the park while taking photos of the visible lake and trees.
At Namdaemun Park, the lake stretched wide beyond the deck and railings.
Mountains continued across the water, and nearby, there were pine trees.
There is a white sculpture with the words 'Daecheong Lake' on it.
Above the sculpture, the words 'Boeun Hwaynam' are also placed.
This is a great spot for those looking for a photo opportunity at Daecheong Lake. I took photos in front of the sculpture with the lake in the background.
Additionally, there were yellow and light green star-shaped sculptures on the lakeside deck.
Stars were connected under the trees, and leaves had fallen on the ground.
Along the deck, there were purple umbrellas and benches facing the lake, allowing for a nice view of Daecheong Lake and the mountains across.
Nearby, there was a resting area with a round roof and long benches.
The shadows of the railings were long on the deck floor.
After exploring around the sculpture, I also enjoyed the lake view from the resting area.
At Namdaemun Park, I also looked at a stone tablet inscribed with the submerged history of Hwaynam.
The inscription describes how many villages were submerged due to the construction of Daecheong Dam in 1980, forcing residents to leave their homes and farms.
It also included the circumstances of relocating the township and starting anew.
Below the inscription, it reads, 'August 2007, by the people of Hwaynam.'
You can read about the records of the old village that lies beneath the lake.
I also saw hydrangeas at Namdaemun Park, with round clusters of white and pink flowers, some of which had turned brown.
While enjoying the lake scenery, I also took close-up photos of the flowers.
On Sadam-gil, I explored both the village and the lakeside.
Descending the stairs from the village, you find a deck path along the water.
On one side of the path, trees grow, and beyond the railing, Daecheong Lake is visible.
In areas where branches extended over the path, I walked in the shade.
Sunlight filtering through the leaves cast shadows on the deck floor.
As I walked, there were sections where water peeked through the trees and areas where the lake was fully visible.
In the open areas, I could see the mountains across the water.
Unlike when standing still in the park, I observed the lake while walking along Sadam-gil.
Sadam-gil also has sections where vines grow along a round arch structure.
The arches connect in succession, with green leaves remaining above.
Shadows of the leaves and structure overlapped on the ground.
There were also places on the deck path where yellow and red leaves had accumulated.
While walking and admiring the lake and mountains, I captured photos of the fallen leaves beneath my feet.
This October walking path allowed me to see both the remaining leaves on trees and the fallen ones.
As I moved along Sadam-gil, I also checked out the walls of the Byeonggyeong Mural Village.
At the time of my visit, only some of the murals remained, and the inner walls of the village were painted blue.
It wasn't a continuous display of murals throughout the village, so those planning to see the murals should keep this in mind.
The remaining paintings featured pink flowers and butterflies.
I also saw the phrase, 'A place of warm affection and happiness, Hwaynam-myeon.'
I explored the village's murals along with the lakeside walk.
If you plan to visit Daecheong Lake in Boeun, consider including Jeongmun Park, Namdaemun Park, and Sadam-gil in your itinerary.
Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as there are stairs on Sadam-gil.
When taking photos, leave space for others to pass, and be cautious of your footing in areas with fallen leaves.
