Exploring Baekgok Reservoir: A Hidden Gem in Chungcheongbuk-do

Baekgok Reservoir, located in Jincheon-eup and Baekgok-myeon of Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, is one of the largest agricultural irrigation reservoirs in the region. With its beautiful natural scenery and serene atmosphere, it has become a beloved healing spot for those seeking quiet reflection or a leisurely drive. I recently visited and would like to share my experience of a peaceful stroll around the reservoir.
There are several ways to reach Baekgok Reservoir, but I opted for the more accessible route via Jincheon Historical Theme Park. Instead of entering the theme park parking lot, you can continue straight to the end.
At the end of the Jincheon Historical Theme Park, there are signs directing you to Baekgok Reservoir and Sansu Park. Sansu Park is a small park near the reservoir that can be enjoyed in conjunction with your visit.
Along the path to Baekgok Reservoir, there is a sloped path that likely leads to Sansu Park. The view from this elevated area is stunning, showcasing the beautiful sky.
When you reach the vicinity of the reservoir's embankment, you'll also see a facility known as the Gamseong, designed to reduce the energy of the water flow before it descends downstream. This helps prevent damage to river structures.
As you continue past Sansu Park, a wide walking trail unfolds, allowing you to enjoy the expansive scenery of Baekgok Reservoir.
There's also a charming banner encouraging the conservation of agricultural water, humorously stating, "What’s this? The rice paddy water is overflowing!" This expression feels very much like the local dialect of Chungcheong-do.
The vast Baekgok Reservoir offers tranquil views, perfect for enjoying a peaceful atmosphere. With its large water volume, the lakeside scenery is truly magnificent, especially in the early morning or during seasons with significant temperature differences, when dreamy mist often rises from the surface.
There are signs indicating directions to various spots like Haemare Rest Area, Baekgok Mulantdeul-gil, and Gilsun Welcome Park. If you head towards Baekgok Mulantdeul-gil, you will find several cafes nearby where you can admire the reservoir's scenery.
The view looking down towards Jincheon Historical Theme Park is quite picturesque, with many small wildflowers blooming in the area and the hilly terrain providing a beautiful landscape from above.
Baekgok Reservoir is equipped with essential facilities for managing and discharging the reservoir water, including gates and intake towers, allowing visitors to appreciate its grandeur and unique beauty.
There is also a swaying bridge that offers a thrilling experience while enjoying the stunning reservoir views. Walking across the bridge, you can feel the refreshing breeze and get closer to the scenery. Although the bridge sways quite a bit, which can be a little scary, it’s an enjoyable experience for families!
After crossing the swaying bridge, you can continue walking along the reservoir's trail or relax at a café with a great view while sipping coffee. If you're looking for a quiet place for reflection and healing, I highly recommend visiting Baekgok Reservoir.
