Delivering Hope to Remote Islands Without Dental Clinics
Islands without medical facilities.
Places where you have to take a boat to go to the hospital,
and even that is difficult when the weather is bad.
For the numerous island residents of Sinan County,
medical care has always been
a matter of 'distance' and 'time'.
In this reality,
Sinan County has initiated a project
to protect the health rights of island residents.
It's the 'Mobile Dental Clinic' that comes to you.
A dental clinic bus that goes directly to the islands.
Sinan County, together with the Financial Industry Public Interest Foundation
and the Sinan County Welfare Foundation,
is promoting the
'Operating Support for Mobile Dental Clinics in Medically Vulnerable Areas of Islands' project
and providing
on-site care using a mobile dental clinic bus.
This mobile clinic is not just a one-time visit,
but is consistently operated, focusing on:
Remote island areas with no dental clinics or hospitals
Island villages with a high percentage of elderly residents
Areas with particularly vulnerable access to medical care
23 Clinics, Meeting 515 Island Residents
Since its first clinic in July 2025,
this project has achieved the result of treating a total of 515 residents in 23 visits.
Recently, it has visited areas with particularly difficult access,
such as 4 locations in Heuksan-myeon
and 4 senior centers in Sinui-myeon, Hai-myeon and Jangsang-myeon,
providing dental services to more residents.
Beyond Simple Treatment: Customized Oral Care
The mobile clinic team provided customized services considering the oral health of island residents, not just simple check-ups.
The main treatments included:
Oral examination
Scaling
Fluoride application
Denture cleaning education
Oral hygiene management guidance
In particular, denture care education for elderly residents,
which was previously difficult to access,
received great response on site.
"To be able to receive treatment without taking a boat..."
An 80-year-old resident of Jin-ri 1-gu, Heuksan-myeon,
said this at the mobile clinic site.
"I didn't know I could get dental treatment here without having to take a boat to the mainland."
This one sentence most realistically shows
the difficulties that island residents have experienced in accessing medical care.
Sinan County's mobile clinic is not just a simple treatment,
but a policy that adds safety and peace of mind to their lives.
Towards an Island Without Medical Blind Spots
We will make resolving medical blind spots our top priority next year,
and we plan to continuously strengthen regular mobile clinics
and customized health management support.
Based on the results of this mobile clinic, we will promote:
Additional expansion of dental equipment
Introduction of intensive management programs for the elderly
Adjustment of customized visit cycles for island areas
so that more island residents can receive stable dental care benefits.
We will continue to work hard!
