Finally, the long-awaited warm season has arrived, and I wanted to experience the highest peak of the Yeongnam Alps firsthand, so I went on a spring hiking trip to Gajisan.

Although it reaches an elevation of 1,241 meters, starting from the Seongnam Tunnel allows for a relatively short distance to the summit.

However, the rugged terrain and steep slopes made it clear from the entrance that this mountain should not be underestimated.

✔️ Parking Information and Trail Access at Seongnam Tunnel

There is a parking area near the Seongnam Tunnel, the starting point of the hike, but it is somewhat limited, accommodating only about 15 vehicles.

During weekends or peak seasons, you need to arrive early to secure a spot.

Since parking is limited, it is much better to use public transportation or check nearby parking options in advance.

After safely parking my car, I tightened my hiking boots and meticulously prepared for the hike.

I relaxed my muscles with some light stretching and adjusted the weight of my backpack, mentally preparing for a safe hike.

At the beginning of the Seongnam Tunnel trail, there was also a dust remover machine, which would be useful for cleaning up after the hike.

✔️ Thorough Facility Check and Preparation Before Hiking

The trail from Seongnam Tunnel to the summit is approximately 3.5 kilometers round trip.

While the distance is manageable, the difficulty level is quite significant.

Although the distance may feel short, the continuous steep climbs and stairs quickly take your breath away.

Every time I paused to catch my breath and looked back, the beauty of the Yeongnam Alps was truly magnificent and awe-inspiring.

Especially, the azalea clusters encountered during the spring hike up Gajisan are a major highlight and a must-see spectacle.

The pink flowers peeking through the lush greenery were so striking that they made me forget the fatigue of the hike.

While I had to be careful on the rocky areas, the stunning scenery around me made the experience delightful.

✔️ The Beauty of the Azalea Clusters Designated as Natural Monuments

The azaleas and their clusters here were designated as Natural Monument No. 462 on August 19, 2005, and are protected at the national level.

As the largest azalea cluster in the country, its splendor and grandeur felt uniquely remarkable compared to other mountains.

The sight of clusters blooming in various places showcased the wonders of nature.

The pink-tinted ridges against the white clouds felt like a watercolor painting.

Observing the resilient flowers blooming even in harsh rocky crevices deeply moved me.

This journey was truly worthwhile just to witness this precious heritage cultivated by nature over the years.

At the summit, the breathtaking view was exhilarating. The final stretch leading to the peak was a steep rocky area, requiring careful attention to my joints.

Stone and wooden steps continuously tested the hikers' patience, but I persevered.

As I approached the summit, the view expanded, and the refreshing sight invigorated my steps.

Finally reaching the summit stone, the cool mountain breeze instantly dried the sweat on my body.

The view of the Yeongnam Alps from an elevation of 1,241 meters was truly spectacular.

Thanks to the clear weather, the winding mountain ridges were vividly visible, bringing a sense of relief.

Near the summit, I could also see the ridge leading to Unmun Mountain, naturally heightening my anticipation for future hikes.

I heard that many people connect their hikes to Unmun Mountain via Arraja, which sparked a new goal for me.

I would love to challenge myself to conquer the long route to Unmun Mountain after building up my stamina.

The descent was steeper and potentially more slippery than the ascent, so I carefully used hiking poles to make my way down.

Maintaining a narrow stride to protect my knees, I safely returned to the Seongnam Tunnel parking area.

Although my body felt a bit worn out, the vibrant spring flowers and majestic mountains provided a refreshing energy that made the experience invaluable.

If you're looking to create special memories this weekend, consider planning a spring hike at Gajisan.

Experiencing the wonders of nature and the sense of accomplishment at the highest peak of the Yeongnam Alps will surely be meaningful.

This hike among the beautiful azaleas will remain a memorable scene for a long time.
