Visit to the Shin Dal-ja Literary Museum in Gyeongnam

I visited the Shin Dal-ja Literary Museum located in Daeya-ri, Namhae-myeon, Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam.
This museum, nestled in a quiet village, offered a unique space to explore the life and literary world of a poet.
Address: 88-19 Daeya-gil, Namhae-myeon, Geochang-gun (Namha Cultural Village, Shin Dal-ja Literary Museum)
Opening hours: 9 AM to 6 PM (break from 12 PM to 1 PM)
Closed every Wednesday and on May 1st and May 5th.
It is a remarkable place for poetry and literature enthusiasts, as well as for those wishing to reflect on the meaning of literature through an individual's life.
The museum is relatively small but well-organized. The first floor features exhibition spaces, a lecture room, and a book café, while the second floor houses storage and exhibition rooms.
Inside the museum, visitors can view works and records left by Shin Dal-ja from the 1960s to the present, providing a sense of following a poet's journey through time and literary evolution.
What impressed me most were the stories of the mentors and family behind the poet's life.
During her university years, the guidance of her teacher, Kim Nam-jo, who urged her to “write it again!”, and Park Mok-wol's words, “I will write my masterpiece tonight,” were significant influences on Shin Dal-ja's literary world.
Another touching story was about her mother’s guestbook entry, where her mother, who was not well-versed in writing, memorized and wrote a piece for her daughter’s first poetry collection launch—this felt like a deep expression of love and a treasure of life.
Shin Dal-ja carried the philosophy from a notebook given by her father throughout her life: “For a writer, the most important thing is to understand the hearts of others.” This made me ponder whether a good sentence originates from the attitude of understanding others' feelings.
The Shin Dal-ja Literary Museum is not just a place that organizes the achievements of a poet. It embodies the journey of a woman who held onto literature despite the challenges of her time and ultimately elevated her life through poetry.
Particularly, the love for family, the teachings from her mentors, and her humble attitude toward literature permeate the exhibits, providing a calming experience throughout the visit.
The landscape viewed from the Shin Dal-ja Literary Museum is not only for those who understand poetry; it is a meaningful space for anyone wishing to reconsider a line from life.
