Exploring the Metasequoia Forest Trail in Ulsan Grand Park

In the heat of summer, outdoor walks can often feel overwhelming. However, if you wish to enjoy the lush green scenery under the shade of tall trees, I recommend the Metasequoia Forest Trail in Ulsan Grand Park.
This place is filled with straight trees reaching towards the sky, creating an atmosphere that makes you feel as if you've stepped deep into a forest, even in the midst of the city.
Ulsan Grand Park is much larger than you might expect when you walk through it. There are separate parking lots at the main entrance, east gate, and south gate, so it's essential to choose your parking location based on where you plan to visit.
The quickest way to reach the Metasequoia Forest Trail is to use the parking lot at the main entrance. The parking fee is 500 won for the first 30 minutes for passenger cars, with an additional 200 won for every 10 minutes thereafter. Therefore, if you stay for an hour, the total cost would be approximately 1,100 won.
After entering the park from the main parking lot, walk towards the Chung-hon Tower for about 10 to 15 minutes, and you will find the Metasequoia Forest Trail. Directional signs are installed throughout the park, making it easy to find your way even if it's your first visit.
The walking distance is not short, but as you enjoy the scenery of ponds, windmills, and dense trees, it doesn't feel as long as you might think.
As you pass through the entrance and arrive at the forest trail, the towering Metasequoia trees fill your view. Sunlight gently filters through the trees, creating a wide shade on the ground, offering a cool atmosphere that makes you forget the summer heat for a moment.
Walking slowly between the long rows of trees brings a sense of relaxation, and no matter which direction you take photos, the lush green forest view is stunning.
Next to the regular walking path, there is also a clay path where visitors can walk barefoot. The ability to feel the earth's texture underfoot while walking slowly on the soft dirt path is another charm of this place.
If you usually spend a lot of time on paved paths or indoors, taking off your shoes and walking on the soil for a different experience is highly recommended.
After finishing your walk on the clay path, you can wash your feet at a nearby foot-washing station. Facilities for washing your feet and organizing your shoes are provided, making the barefoot walking experience quite comfortable.
This time, take your time and walk slowly, enjoying the soft texture of the earth and the fresh forest air.
Throughout the Metasequoia Forest Trail, there are benches and resting spots where you can take a break. Sitting under the shade of the trees allows you to avoid the sun while leisurely enjoying the forest breeze and greenery. Bringing along a simple snack or water is also a good idea for a mid-walk break.
The official Ulsan Grand Park guide also mentions that benches and swings have been installed around the forest trail to create a space for relaxation in nature.
Near the turnaround point of the trail, there is a spacious clay experience area with a roof. Unlike a typical barefoot clay path, you can immerse your feet in the moist clay, allowing you to feel the soft texture even more intensely. Walking barefoot on the clay in the forest makes you forget the fatigue accumulated from your walk.
Walking along the clay path beneath the towering trees makes you momentarily forget that you are in the middle of the city. Thanks to the shade created by the dense greenery, it is relatively comfortable to enjoy a walk even in the height of summer, and with resting areas and foot-washing stations available, it’s a great place to challenge yourself to walk barefoot.
If you want to stroll leisurely while enjoying the green forest in Ulsan, I highly recommend the Metasequoia Forest Trail in Ulsan Grand Park. It's a perfect spot for a light walk with family or for quiet reflection alone.
