Exploring the Historic Home of Independence Activist Park Sang-jin
I visited the historic home of Park Sang-jin, a prominent independence activist from Ulsan, where I could deeply feel his love for the country.
The site offers free admission and parking facilities.
Located in Songjeong-dong, Ulsan, the birthplace features a walking path and the historical house.
This is the childhood home of Goheon Park Sang-jin (1884-1921), who played a significant role in the independence movement. It was designated as Cultural Heritage Material No. 5 by Ulsan Metropolitan City on October 9, 1997.
Visiting hours are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with regular closures on Mondays and public holidays.
The house, built in 1825, is a traditional Yangban residence from the late Joseon period, consisting of six buildings arranged in a "ㅂ" shape.
The Haengrangchae (servants' quarters) was rebuilt in 1959 after being damaged by a typhoon. Ulsan Metropolitan City acquired the house in 2002 and began restoration, completing the project in 2007.
As I walked through the beautifully restored Hanok, I could glimpse the lifestyle of that era. The exhibitions and information throughout the historical park provided insights into the achievements of Park Sang-jin, who served as the commander of the Korean Liberation Association.
The spacious, well-maintained walking paths and lush nature made it a lovely place to enjoy both history and relaxation.

Along the walking trail, there are well-designed parks for resting. A pavilion in the center offers shade from the sun, making it a popular spot for local residents to stroll and relax.
At the highest point, there is a plaza featuring a statue of Park Sang-jin and sculptures commemorating his achievements. The stones engraved with explanations about the Korean Liberation Association and its members provide valuable information.
On either side of the statue, scenes depicting the Seungam carriage theft incident and the liberation are artistically represented, illustrating the nature of the organization.
Just a five-minute drive from Park Sang-jin's birthplace is Park Sang-jin Lake Park, making it a perfect combination for a visit.
The birthplace serves as a historical park embodying the spirit of independence activist Park Sang-jin, while the nearby lake park offers an ecological retreat in the city, making them a great pair to explore together.
