Shinan County Sets New Milestone in South Korea's Offshore Wind Power Industry

Shinan County has established a new milestone in South Korea's offshore wind power industry.
On July 16, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Shinan Uwi Offshore Wind Power Project was successfully held at the Shinan National Sports Center.
The ceremony was attended by over 200 participants, including Shinan County Mayor Kim Tae-sung, Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Kim Sung-hwan, and the Mayor of Gwangju-Jeonnam, Min Hyung-bae, along with representatives from local councils, relevant organizations, businesses, and community residents, all celebrating the new beginning of South Korea's renewable energy industry.
The Shinan Uwi Offshore Wind Power Project is one of the largest offshore wind power projects in Korea, located in the southern waters of Uwi Island in the Docho-myeon district of Shinan County.
With a total investment of 3.4 trillion KRW, the project plans to install 26 units of 15MW offshore wind turbines, creating a total power generation capacity of 390MW.
This project is a key initiative for the country's energy transition and achieving carbon neutrality, expected to serve as an important foundation for expanding eco-friendly energy and leading a sustainable future.
Notably, this project has been selected as the 'First Mega Project' under the government's 'National Growth Fund,' receiving large-scale policy finance support.
This support is anticipated to ensure the stable promotion of the project, enhance the competitiveness of the domestic offshore wind power industry, and invigorate the local economy.
Additionally, the project aims to establish a co-growth model with the local community during its implementation, contributing positively to job creation and local economic revitalization.
In his speech, Mayor Kim Tae-sung stated, "We will strive to ensure that the Shinan Uwi Offshore Wind Power Project becomes a representative model of co-growth that revitalizes the local economy and creates quality jobs, prioritizing the safety and communication with our citizens above all else."
With this groundbreaking, Shinan County aims to strengthen its position as a leader in South Korea's offshore wind power industry and continuously discover and expand future growth engines based on renewable energy.
Shinan County is embarking on a new challenge towards clean energy and a sustainable future!
