The 'Hwaseong Golden Coast Trail' has been established along the western coast of Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province, stretching a total of 17km from Jebu Marina to Gungpyeong Port. This walking path features a harmonious connection between a 4.4km marine and coastal deck and a 12.6km coastal scenic road, allowing visitors to enjoy the rich natural resources of the western coast, including mudflats, salt fields, and sea pine forests.
The trail, designed with a width of 2.25m, offers views of unique natural resources and various tourist spots and facilities along the way, making it easier to plan an enriching outing.
The entire course is divided into three sections based on geographic features and themes. The first section, 'Sunset Scenic Path', starts from Jebu Marina and extends to Songgyeo-ri, covering a total of 5km, which takes about 70 minutes to walk.
Section 1 consists of a 0.3km marine deck and a 4.7km coastal scenic road. Here, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the sunset over the West Sea and the vast mudflat landscape. Nearby attractions include Jebu Island, known for its mystical sea roads, the cable car crossing the sea to Jebu Island, and Jebu Marina.
The second section, 'Salt Sea Path', connects Songgyeo-ri to Baengmi Port and the Gongseng Salt Fields, covering a 4.5km course with a walking time of about 70 minutes. This section combines a 2.3km marine deck and a 2.2km coastal scenic road, allowing visitors to appreciate the unique horizontal landscape of the West Coast, where the sea and salt fields stretch side by side.
Key landmarks include the Gongseng Salt Fields, a modern industrial heritage and ecological resource, and the entrance to Salgwi. However, some routes in this section pass through military-controlled areas, so visitors must use designated detours after 5:30 PM on weekdays for safety and security.
The third section, 'Gungpyeong Tourist Path', is the longest at 7.5km, starting from the Gongseng Salt Fields and Baengmi Port, reaching Gungpyeong Port. It takes about 100 minutes to walk and includes a 1.8km marine deck and a 5.7km coastal scenic road, featuring numerous viewpoints and photo spots.
The 'Gungpyeong Sea Pine Forest' is home to over 1,000 pine trees that are over 100 years old, creating a beautiful wooded area. Additionally, the Baengmi Village Experience Center offers large-scale tourism resources. Be sure to visit Seohae Maru Youth Hostel for breathtaking sunset views during your walk.
The 17km journey concludes at Gungpyeong Port, where the sandy beach and sea pine forest meet. The area around Gungpyeong Port, equipped with fish markets, breakwaters, and viewpoints, is perfect for visitors to relax after completing the entire course.
The Hwaseong Golden Coast Trail offers ample infrastructure, including parking, restrooms, and shuttle buses, accommodating various forms of exploration from short walks to the full 17km trek.
