Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is a must-visit spot in Gijang, Busan, that is perfect for year-round visits. It has recently become popular among both locals and foreign tourists.
Upon arrival, the first thing to check is the parking information. The temple has a spacious paid parking lot, which can get crowded on weekends and holidays. It is important to follow the instructions of the staff at the entrance for orderly access.
The operating hours are quite generous, allowing many visitors to come for sunrise views. While there is no admission fee, parking fees apply: 2,000 KRW for the first 20 minutes, 500 KRW for each additional 10 minutes, and 30,000 KRW for a full day.
Along the path from the parking lot to the temple entrance, there are various food stalls and shops that are great for a light stroll and exploration.
Before entering the temple, visitors are greeted by a long line of zodiac stone statues. Families often take memorable photos in front of the statue that corresponds to their zodiac sign, making it a delightful experience.

Throughout the temple, there are places to toss coins while making wishes and small Buddha statues, making it an educational spot to introduce children to our traditional culture.
As you pass through Yongmun Bridge and Manbok Gate, you will see the main hall and the Great Kwanseum Buddha.
On the Sunday I visited, the temple offered a communal lunch for an hour, serving bibim guksu (mixed noodles) that was delicious!
The highlight of Haedong Yonggungsa is the Great Kwanseum Buddha, the largest stone statue in Korea, representing the Bodhisattva of Mercy. Many visitors come here to make wishes. The view of Haedong Yonggungsa from the area of the Great Kwanseum Buddha is also stunning.
There is a shrine for the Dragon King and a large statue of the Buddha nearby, known for bringing good fortune when touched.
If you visit Haedong Yonggungsa, don't forget to bathe the baby Buddha at the ritual bath and make a wish!
