In Taehwa-dong, Jung-gu, Ulsan, you can find Taehwaru, a pavilion that offers beautiful views of the Taehwa River along with a glimpse into Ulsan's history.
Just across the road is Taehwa Market, making it a great travel itinerary for a visit to Ulsan.
Last weekend, I visited both places early in the morning.
From the serene pavilion, I gazed upon the Taehwa River, feeling the charm of the past, and enjoyed exploring the bustling market across the street.
It was a delightful experience that felt uniquely Ulsan!
Taehwaru has a history that dates back to the Silla Dynasty.

Taehwaru was built in 643 AD by the monk Jajang Yulsa alongside Taehwa Temple during the reign of Queen Seondeok of Silla.
It has been a renowned site since at least 997 when King Seongjong of Goryeo held a banquet here.
Along with Jinju's Chokseokru and Miryang's Yeongnamru, it is considered one of the three great pavilions of Yeongnam.
Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the Imjin War and remained in ruins for a long time.
Thanks to Ulsan's 'Creating a Taehwa River with History and Future' project, it was restored to its original location in 2014.
There is a promotional exhibition hall where you can view photos and videos of its history, including images of ancient ferry boats and valuable materials from the restoration process.
The view from the pavilion is stunning, offering a panoramic view of the winding Taehwa River and the surrounding Jung-gu and Nam-gu districts.
Now, it has been developed into Taehwaru Park, allowing visitors to leisurely enjoy the scenery of the Taehwa River.
Next to it is a skywalk, making it easy to visit both attractions together. If you want to learn more about Taehwaru's history, guided tours are available.
Taehwa Market, located directly across from Taehwaru, is a traditional market that operates as a permanent market and hosts special markets on the 5th and 10th of each month.
On market days, the atmosphere is lively and engaging.

The Taehwa Market has its roots in local farmers and fishermen from nearby areas who came to sell their goods.
Although the market faced challenges after the relocation of the intercity bus terminal in 1994, revitalization efforts have restored its status as one of the largest markets in Ulsan.
On market days, the number of stalls doubles, offering a wide variety of produce, food, clothing, and more.
The market is a great place to enjoy delicious food, and I was able to have a delightful breakfast there!
There are also many miscellaneous goods that can only be found in traditional markets.
One stall selling sesame oil and perilla oil caught my attention with its delightful aroma.
There are two public restrooms in the market, and a new parking facility is under construction, expected to be completed by May 2027.
Visiting Taehwaru for its tranquil views and Taehwa Market for its vibrant atmosphere is highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience both the history and present of Ulsan.
