Whenever we hear news of unpredictable accidents, the most pressing topic in our society is undoubtedly 'safety.' In our country, surrounded on three sides by the sea, marine safety is an irreplaceable priority. To ensure peace of mind for its residents, Gyeonggi Province has been building a robust marine safety infrastructure throughout the region.
For children, experiential education that helps them recognize and respond to dangers is far more crucial than simply telling them to 'be careful' or 'it's dangerous.' In response to this need, the city of Ansan has established a unique learning space on Daebu Island where families can joyfully learn marine safety rules through play.
Introducing the Ansan Gyeonggi Marine Safety Experience Center, a living educational site where visitors can learn the importance of marine safety while enjoying a unique urban environment.
Upon entering the center, visitors are greeted by a spacious lobby filled with engaging areas that are accessible to everyone, regardless of age. The lobby features high ceilings and large glass windows that let in warm sunlight, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. Alongside comfortable resting areas, marine safety models and real-time information terminals are strategically placed to spark curiosity from the moment you enter.
The permanent exhibition hall, located deeper within the lobby, is a valuable space that visitors can explore freely without a reservation. It showcases the marine environment and its hazards, as well as essential knowledge on how to properly wear life jackets and the uses of various marine survival equipment, presented through intuitive models and video media. Additionally, there is a profound exhibition space dedicated to the Sewol ferry disaster of April 16, 2014, adding depth to the experience.
The permanent exhibitions are divided into three distinct areas, each capturing different aspects of marine safety through diverse themes and atmospheres. Moreover, one section of the first floor features award-winning works from a marine safety content contest, providing meaningful insights into the value of marine safety through creative displays.
For those seeking a more hands-on experience in a realistic environment, the second and third floors, along with the basement, offer specialized experience zones that require prior reservation. For a reasonable fee of 5,000 won per person, visitors can participate in practical programs like escaping from a submerged vessel, navigating a ship, and marine survival training, providing children with unforgettable real-world skills.
After spending an enriching time at the experience center, visitors can take a short walk to Daebu Island Park, located right in front. Strolling along the gently laid paths amidst serene pavilions and lush forest trails is perfect for enjoying a refreshing sea breeze and winding down after a day of learning. Walking through the park, basking in the sunlight filtering through the trees, creates wonderful memories of the day’s safety education.
The Ansan Gyeonggi Marine Safety Experience Center offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the value of marine safety education while enjoying the healing effects of nature. We hope you consider visiting this weekend to learn about safety and create meaningful memories with your family.
