Breakfast in Seogwipo, Jeju
A Must-Visit Traditional Korean Restaurant in Jeju
Recently, my friend and I went on a trip to Jeju. Both of us are die-hard fans of traditional Korean cuisine, so we made sure to enjoy hearty meals of warm rice and soup three times a day, even while traveling. One breakfast that stood out was at Dongdowon, a restaurant in Seogwipo, which I would like to introduce.
Dongdowon offers a lavish spread at a reasonable price, and the taste is exceptional! After visiting, I found out that it is quite a famous spot in the Jungmun area. I can't believe I was unaware of it until now. Anyway, let me share a detailed review!
1. Location, Parking, and Operating Information
Located near the Jungmun Tourist Complex, Dongdowon has been loved by locals for over 15 years. This traditional Korean restaurant serves a variety of dishes, featuring grilled fish and braised mackerel as the main attractions. Can you believe that a single serving costs only 18,000 won? While mackerel is relatively affordable, grilled fish can be pricey, making this offer even more impressive. I felt proud to have visited!
Dongdowon opens at 9 AM, making it a perfect choice for breakfast in Seogwipo. We arrived right at opening time and enjoyed a fulfilling meal. It's essential to have a good breakfast to have fun during the day!
Upon arriving, we were greeted by a spacious parking lot, allowing us to park comfortably before heading inside.
✔ Address: 189 Ieodo Road, Seogwipo City
✔ Parking: Large parking lot available
✔ Operating Hours: 9 AM - 9 PM (Last orders at 8 PM)
✔ Amenities: Reservations, group dining, and child-friendly options available.
2. Clean and Pleasant Interior & Menu
The interior was spacious and clean, which satisfied my expectations for hygiene. The owner was friendly, making our experience even better. The menu is straightforward, as Dongdowon operates with a single set menu. We ordered two servings and chatted while we waited.
✅ Breakfast Composition: Braised mackerel, grilled fish, seafood stew, and seasonal side dishes including various greens and kimchi.
3. How Many Side Dishes Are There?
Shortly after, a flurry of dishes was served. There were so many side dishes that even as self-proclaimed foodies, we wondered if we could finish them all. The abundant spread, priced at 18,000 won per person, felt almost unbelievable!
Especially delightful were the seasonal greens, which were fresh, aromatic, and healthy. We made sure to finish every bite. The flavors were mild yet rich, showcasing the natural taste of the seasonal vegetables.
4. DIY Bibimbap Tip
As we sampled the side dishes, I had the urge to make bibimbap. To my surprise, when I requested a large bowl for bibimbap, they kindly provided sesame oil and homemade gochujang (chili paste) for us to mix our own. This added a delightful twist to our breakfast experience.
5. The Three Main Dishes
The highlight of the breakfast was undoubtedly the three main dishes. The braised mackerel was rich and sweet, served in a generous pot. The freshness of the fish meant there was no fishy taste at all, and the meat was thick and easy to enjoy with chopsticks.
The grilled fish was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with a perfect seasoning that was neither bland nor overly spicy. Finally, the seafood stew was packed with fresh seafood, providing a refreshing taste that made me want to sip on a bottle of makgeolli (Korean rice wine).
For us, who insist on having traditional Korean food for every meal, Dongdowon was undoubtedly the best breakfast we had on our trip. Starting the day with such a warm and thoughtful meal made our travels more enjoyable and less tiring. It's a great place for families, so I highly recommend visiting!
