Exploring Jeonju Hanok Village: A Visit to Jeolla Gamyeong

Jeolla Gamyeong is the administrative office where the governor of Jeolla Province worked, also known as 'Wanyeong.' The name 'Wanyeong' comes from the old name of Jeonju, Wansan. This time, I visited Jeolla Gamyeong, one of the must-visit places in Jeonbuk.
The Jeolla governor (Jeolla-do Observational Officer) was a high-ranking official overseeing the entire province, equivalent to today's provincial governor. The governor had immense power, managing administrative, military, and judicial matters.
The main building of Jeolla Gamyeong is Seonhwa-dang, which served as the governor's office. The name Seonhwa-dang comes from the idea of enlightening the people through the virtues of the king.
Key structures in Jeolla Gamyeong include Naesammun, Seonhwa-dang, Gwanpung-gak, Bijangcheong, Yeonsindang, Nae-a, Hwihwa-namu, Seonjeongbi, a well, Eungcheong-dang, Yeongri-cheong, Byeolgungwancheong, Gunroe-cheong, Pojeongru, Jakcheong, Gyoryeon-cheong, Uiguk-cheong, Simyak-dang, Saryeong-cheong, Byeongbang-gun-gwancheong, Sunryeonsu-cheong, Geomryul-dang, Jubildang, Doricheong, Gyeseo-cheong, Jinsang-cheong, Jaegagungwan-cheong, Incheong, Seonjacheong, and more.
Jeolla Gamyeong was the center of publishing culture in Jeonju, publishing over 70 types of books under the name Wanyeong. There were facilities for making paper and printing books within Jeolla Gamyeong, and the book plates were stored on the west side of the guesthouse.
Upon entering Jeolla Gamyeong, I was able to take a brochure that detailed the history and culture of the site, allowing me to learn more about it.
Although it was hot, the weather was pleasant, and the cool breeze made my visit to Jeolla Gamyeong feel truly refreshing. I love Hanok architecture, and strolling around while enjoying the breeze and resting at Gwanpung-gak was a new and delightful experience.
Visitors must remove their shoes before entering Gwanpung-gak, and the view from up there offers a completely different perspective from below.
I'm glad there is a place like Jeolla Gamyeong in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, where one can relax. I often visit the nearby Gyeongguksa building, but now I feel inspired to visit Jeolla Gamyeong more frequently after this visit.
It’s a great place to stroll with friends, loved ones, or family, and it’s also enjoyable to explore alone.

It’s also recommended as a spot to escape the heat.
The large protective trees provide a nice opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature and the Hanok buildings.
Jeolla Gamyeong also hosts a permanent media art exhibition at Nae-a, open from 5 PM to 9 PM, with free admission.
