Taking a moment to walk, admire the seasonal scenery, and share stories with a companion can be a wonderfully fulfilling experience.
On this trip, I visited Yeonhwaji Pond in Gyeongju.
I visited on August 8, just after a sudden downpour.
The lotus leaves, drenched by the rain, were slightly drooping, yet the vibrant green landscape of the pond created a calm and tranquil atmosphere.
From the droplets clinging to the lotus leaves to the winding paths between the blooming lotus flowers, and the refreshing fountain rising high,
I encountered a different beauty compared to a sunny day.
Yeonhwaji Pond is a reservoir located in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
It was established in the early Joseon Dynasty to supply agricultural water and has been known as a place of enjoyment due to its clear waters and beautiful surroundings.
In the middle of the pond, an island was created with a pavilion called Bonghwangdae, where people would recite poetry and enjoy the scenery.
During summer, the lotus leaves take center stage, flourishing abundantly on the pond.
Despite the heavy rain on the day of my visit, I found the post-rain landscape to be quite beautiful.
The droplets on the wide lotus leaves captured my attention, adding to the serene ambiance of the surroundings.
As I walked around the pond, I spotted Bonghwangdae peeking through the lotus leaves and trees.
Unfortunately, the pavilion was closed due to the heavy rain, so keep this in mind if you plan to visit!
Even though I couldn't explore the interior, Bonghwangdae looked beautifully integrated with the surrounding trees and lotus leaves.
The fountain in the pond continuously sprayed water, and watching the cool streams rise between the calm lotus leaves made the heat feel a little less oppressive.
Despite the humid and hot weather after the rain, the moving fountain added a lively touch to the scenery.
With the summer lotus leaves filling the space where spring cherry blossoms once were, the blooming lotus flowers and refreshing fountain created a wonderful view.
Even the lotus leaves, slightly drooping after the rain, became a memorable part of that day's scenery.

Bonghwangdae opening hours: 09:00 - 17:00 (Closed during rain).
