A Family Trip to Mungyeong Saejae

We visited Mungyeong Saejae in Gyeongbuk with my family.
Walking leisurely while enjoying the charm of the old paths and the lush nature made this family outing feel even more special.
Mungyeong Saejae is a pass that crosses over Joryeongsan, part of the Baekdudaegan mountain range.
Historically, it was the highest and most challenging pass on the Yeongnam Road, connecting the Han River and Nakdong River.
After the Imjin War, three gates were established to fortify it as a defensive stronghold.
While one can encounter historical footprints here, I visited primarily for a family walk.
Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park has no entrance fee and is open year-round, making it a convenient place to visit anytime.
On weekends, the park can get crowded, so it's advisable to arrive early, even though there are plenty of parking spaces.
At the park entrance, there are also light snacks available for purchase, and a tram service operates.
The old road museum at the entrance offers two routes: Route A to the open set and Route C to the second gate.
Timetables are detailed on the fare chart for reference.
For the elderly or those with mobility issues, the tram provides a convenient way to get around.
Our family chose to take a light walk instead.
A leisurely stroll of about 15 to 20 minutes brought us to the first gate, where the massive stone walls and expansive lawns were quite harmonious.
Beyond the first gate, there is an open set where many historical Korean films and dramas have been filmed.
Recent productions like "The King: Eternal Monarch" and "Dong-gung" were shot here.
The set recreates the scenery of the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, making you feel like you've traveled back in time.
The absence of power poles and modern lighting adds to the realism.
Inside the set, there were free hanbok rentals for photos and tea tastings.
We created memories through photos and learned more about Mungyeong.
On the way back, we walked through the ecological maze park, enjoying the scent of the forest and the serene scenery.
It was a delightful outing at Mungyeong Saejae.
