As a seafood lover, here are my must-try dishes when I visit Jeju Island!

1. Mackerel Sashimi 2. Sweet Shrimp Sashimi 3. Horned Sea Snail 4. Braised Mackerel

Today, I’ll share my experience at Onpyeong Sea Han-gut, where I enjoyed dishes 1 to 3.

You can enjoy ultra-fresh mackerel sashimi, caught upon ordering!

I’ll even guide you on how to enjoy mackerel sashimi at its best!

Onpyeong Sea Han-gut is just a 12-minute drive from our accommodation at Phoenix Island.

It’s conveniently located near popular attractions like Seongsan Ilchulbong, Gwangchigi Beach, and Seopjikoji.

Advantages:

- Ample parking available

- A great atmosphere for couples, friends, and families

- Fresh seasonal seafood depending on the day’s catch

Disadvantages:

- The terrace can be hot, so I recommend the cool indoor seating

- Some ingredients may run out due to limited supplies

The indoor atmosphere was quite pleasant, even though it was almost an open run, with plenty of customers.

There were couples on dates and families dining together.

In summer, the indoor space was very comfortable and cool.

As a haenyeo (female diver) restaurant, the seafood selection changes daily, which is both an advantage and a disadvantage.

Fortunately, everything during my visit was seafood I love.

You can't miss the sea urchin sashimi, a seasonal delicacy in Jeju.

The prices are quite reasonable.

Menu & Prices:

The menu was quite diverse, but I ordered set 3, which includes mackerel sashimi, assorted seafood, and seafood ramen.

Mackerel sashimi is 40,000 won, assorted seafood is 45,000 won, and octopus and abalone ramen is 15,000 won.

It was a delightful meal with a view of Seongsan Ilchulbong and the ocean.

I also ordered Hallasan soju, the perfect pairing with sashimi.

The side dishes were simple, including a macaroni salad, which was a nice appetizer before the main dishes arrived.

Kimchi was perfectly fermented and great with ramen.

Stir-fried fish cake was savory and made a good pairing with drinks.

Finally, the mackerel sashimi arrived, beautifully plated and too pretty to eat.

After a bad experience with packaged mackerel sashimi years ago, I highly recommend ordering the fresh kind!

The taste of fresh mackerel sashimi is incredibly rich and flavorful.

Just one piece bursts with a delightful oiliness.

The owner shared a delicious way to enjoy mackerel sashimi:

1. Place sushi rice on dried seaweed.

2. Add sweet and sour onion salad.

3. Top with aged kimchi and mackerel sashimi.

This combination allows you to appreciate the rich flavors of mackerel sashimi.

It’s a much better pairing than soy sauce or wasabi!

The belly of the mackerel is a rare delicacy that adds a delightful texture and flavor.

The assorted seafood was just as delicious and plentiful.

The variety was overwhelming for a seafood lover.

With fresh sea urchin, oysters, abalone, seasonal fish, octopus, sweet shrimp, and horned sea snail, it was a feast of Jeju's ocean treasures.

The seasonal fish selection was plentiful, making it even more diverse.

If you’re full, you can just order the assorted seafood and enjoy it with drinks.

Jeju's sweet shrimp is known for its delightful flavor and richness.

The shells are cleaned for easy eating.

Pairing the sashimi with Hallasan soju enhances the experience.

The horned sea snail sashimi has a unique flavor, different from abalone, with a nuttier taste.

Dipping it in sauce elevates the flavor.

The spicy seafood ramen was a perfect finish to the meal.

It had a nice kick and was great for a light hangover cure.

With crab, octopus legs, live abalone, shrimp, and mussels, the ramen was packed with seafood.

The broth was undoubtedly delicious due to the quality ingredients.

The aquarium was clean, and the mackerel was incredibly fresh.

It was comforting to eat in such a pleasant environment.

The view of the beach and Seongsan Ilchulbong while dining was especially enjoyable.

The fresh mackerel sashimi and seafood were delightful. That concludes my review of a wonderfully satisfying meal!
