Every year on September 6th, we celebrate 'Resource Circulation Day'.
This day aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the Earth's environment and recycling resources.
It was established to promote a culture of conserving resources and reusing them in our daily lives.
This year marks the 18th Resource Circulation Day, and I attended an event at KINTEX to reflect on the meaning of 'resource circulation' and to experience it firsthand.
The event aimed to inform citizens about the significance of resource circulation and to present various attractions that make it easier and more approachable.
One of the highlights was the message that 'even discarded items can become resources again'.
We were able to see and experience this message directly.
The items we use daily are mostly made from limited resources.
Simple items like paper cups, PET bottles, and plastic bags require water, energy, and raw materials to produce.
Therefore, it's crucial to not just use and throw away these items but to recover, recycle, and turn reusable resources into new products.
At the event, I encountered various eco-friendly companies that recycle 'waste plastics' and 'PET bottles'.
From keychains to flower pots and T-shirts, we observed how these items are reused as new products or materials.
This shifted my perspective from seeing these items as 'just trash' to thinking about 'circulating' them.
Single-use cups and empty containers are items that allow us to easily participate in recycling efforts around us.
Collected paper cups can be processed into recycled paper towels, and returning empty bottles at local stores can earn you a deposit refund.
At one section of the event, an AI waste sorting robot demonstrated its capabilities.
As various types of waste passed along a conveyor belt, the robotic arm sorted them automatically, which was fascinating to watch.
Many attendees were captivated by this demonstration.
In the upcycling experience booth, we created flowers and pot holders from discarded socks, allowing people of all ages to learn about environmental protection while enjoying the process.
It was a great opportunity to create personalized goods.
Resource circulation is not just the job of a few special individuals; it is something we can all do.
Using items more than once, consuming only what we need, and properly sorting waste are the simplest actions we can take for the environment.
Instead of waiting for grand changes for the Earth, let's start with small actions we can take today.
