Today, we would like to introduce the historical site, the 'Philippine Armed Forces Memorial,' located in Goyang City's Deogyang District, Gwanseon-dong.
Every time I travel through Goyang City, I often wondered, "What is that place?" So, I decided to park and visit it.
It was a moment filled with gratitude as I visited the Philippine Armed Forces Memorial and the Goyang City 6.25 Memorial!
The Philippine Armed Forces Memorial is dedicated to the Philippine Armed Forces who participated in the Korean War.
Location: 154-8 Gwanseon-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang City, Gyeonggi-do

I read about the historical background and learned that South Korea was invaded by North Korea on June 25, 1950.
The Philippine troops arrived in Korea on September 19, 1950, to help protect the safety and freedom of South Korea.
A total of 1,496 Philippine soldiers participated in the combat, with 448 of them losing their lives. It is humbling to think of those who sacrificed their lives for South Korea from a distant land.
It's remarkable that over 1,000 troops were dispatched to support South Korea.
The Philippine Armed Forces Memorial was established on October 2, 1974.
It stands 17 meters tall, with a base height of 4.5 meters and a statue height of 3 meters, covering an area of 1,200 pyeong.
The memorial's triangular structure gives a sense of unity and stability, while its graceful curves are striking.
The relief sculptures of 50 figures represent the resilience of the Korean people in their pursuit of freedom and peace.
The front relief of the memorial reflects the unique cultural heritage of the Philippines. I climbed to the top, where a bird, symbolizing peace, is sculpted.
Being located along the roadside, it is easy to miss, but visiting it in person was a different experience.
The flags of the countries that participated in the Korean War were beautifully waving.
It's astonishing to discover such valuable historical sites hidden throughout Goyang City.
Instead of passing by, I encourage everyone to visit and reflect on the gratitude we owe to the Philippine troops who contributed to our current peace.
Right next to it, I found the '6.25 Memorial,' which honors the spirits of those who fought and sacrificed their lives to save the country during the Korean War.
This site is a nationally designated memorial, and the 'ever-blooming' rose of Sharon was beautifully in bloom, adding to the emotional atmosphere.
Reading the inscriptions on the memorial reminded me that our country is still divided and made me reflect on the sacrifices made for us to live well today.
Protecting our nation and freedom is built upon the sacrifices of countless individuals who fought valiantly.
We can still see the 'Taegeukgi' (the national flag of South Korea) flying today, thanks to the sacrifices of many, including the soldiers of South Korea and the Philippines.
I felt truly grateful for their contributions.
