On the morning of September 12, I visited Ilsan Lake Park.
At the 'Outdoor Performance Hall', a special event was taking place.
It was the '2026 Goyang Family Walking Festival'.
Arriving just before the event started at 10 AM, I was surprised to see many citizens already gathered.
Lines formed at the registration desk for pre-registered and on-site sign-ups.
The seating area of the outdoor performance hall quickly filled with families.
Participants varied from parents holding their children's hands to seniors attending with their families.
This year's festival was organized to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Goyang Family Support Center.
The center provides various support services tailored to the diverse needs of families.
At the event, there were displays and photographs reflecting on the past.
A photo zone featured the phrase, '20 years walking together, 20 years to walk together', which matched the festival's theme perfectly.
The event kicked off with performances and an award ceremony starting at 10 AM.
Participants filled the stairs of the outdoor performance hall, and I was struck by the large turnout of families.
The stage hosted various programs, along with a raffle that drew participants' interest.
This was not just a walking festival!
Along with walking trails, several experiential booths were set up around the venue.
Activities included a multicultural awareness campaign, first aid training, and family-themed crafts.
Visitors could collect stamps at the booths, and collecting six stamps earned a gift at the registration desk.
One of the most eye-catching programs was related to resource recycling, where colorful bottle caps were transformed into new items.
One area of the event showcased collected plastic bottle caps sorted by color.
This 'Bottle Cap Collection Campaign' aimed to repurpose caps that would otherwise be discarded.
Next to it, colorful medals and small items made from bottle caps were displayed, showcasing the creativity involved.
Additionally, a 'Jupging' program encouraged participants to pick up plastic bottles in the park and receive random gifts.
Reflecting on this autumn day at Ilsan Lake Park, the festival offered much more than just walking.
Attendees enjoyed performances, completed missions, and engaged in various programs related to the environment, safety, and family.
Most importantly, seeing the many citizens who arrived before 10 AM made it clear how popular local family events are.
This festival, commemorating the Goyang Family Support Center's 20 years, was a day to walk alongside family, share stories, and enjoy diverse experiences.
